  1. We are especially interested in feedback related to floppy disk access
  2. and sound quality.  What follows is the README for 1.99q10.

  8. 1.99q10 is a "bleeding edge" update for 1.99q.  You must already have
  9. 1.99q or later installed before you can install the 1.99q10 upgrade.
  10. 1.99q10 is a DOS-only upgrade, since most of the changes were
  11. DOS-specific.
  12.  
  13. 1.99q10 is now available in
  14. ftp://ftp.ardi.com/pub/BleedingEdge/DOS/exec9q10.zip and its primary
  15. mirror, ftp://vorlon.mit.edu/pub/ardi/BleedingEdge/DOS/exec9q10.zip.
  16. Other mirror sites will pick it up within the next few days.  If
  17. you're using www.ardi.com to download this version, we recommend you
  18. try the Massachusetts site first.

  20. NOTE to WinNT users: Be sure to configure Executor so that it starts
  21. out in full-screen mode.  If you do not do this, Executor may behave
  22. unpredictably.  Some WinNT users will need "executor -vga".  If
  23. problems persist, try "executor -desperate".

  25. Changes in 1.99q10:
  26.  
  27.     Executor uses a new sound library which should sound better and
  28.     cause fewer floppy access problems on some systems.
  29.  
  30.     Executor's timer code has been modified so Executor should run
  31.     faster (about as fast as with "-oldtimer").  This change might
  32.     also fix some floppy access problems.
  33.  
  34.     The jerky screen fades problem in Lemmings has been fixed.
  35.     This only affected some systems, mostly those without UniVBE.
  36.  
  37. Changes in 1.99q9:
  38.  
  39.     Realmz 2.5 should now work (make sure sound is off).
  40.  
  41.     Added "-desperate" switch which can be used as an act of
  42.     desperation to turn off as much auto-detection and standard
  43.     features as possible to see if a stripped down version of
  44.     Executor will work when the default version doesn't.
  45.  
  46.     Added "-vga" which forces Executor to use original VGA video
  47.     modes instead of attempting to use SVGA video modes which
  48.     fail on some systems.
  49.  
  50.     Added Cmd-Shift-7 FKEY which repaints the screen.
  51.  
  52.     Fixed a memory leak in DrawPicture.
  53.  
  54.     Fixed VGA-mode scrolling bug that affected Lemmings.
  55.  
  56.     Fixed a menu manager bug that affected Realmz and FA-18.
  57.  
  58.     Fixed bug in new standard dialog routines.
  59.  
  60.     Fixed sound manager bugs so Bolo 0.997 will run.
  61.  
  62.     Fixed window manager so windows with custom parts will work
  63.     correctly.
  64.  
  65.     Fixed sound manager bug that was preventing Beebop 2 from
  66.     working.

  68.     Allow -debug trace.

  70.     Fixed NEXTSTEP specific memory leak.

  72.     Eliminated "Ghost Floppy" that sometimes appeared under
  73.     Windows NT.

  79. exec19q8.zip contains a new executor.exe which brings 1.99q up to
  80. 1.99q8.  There have not been many changes to Executor beyond 1.99q7,
  81. so don't expect many bugs to have been fixed.  However, 1.99q8 has two
  82. features that some people will find handy:
  83.  
  84.     Executor/DOS 1.99q8 runs under Windows NT
  85.  
  86.     Executor/DOS 1.99q8 takes advantage of 24-bit DACs on systems
  87.     that have 24-bit DACs and a VESA 2 driver
  88.  
  89. NOTE: Executor/DOS under Windows NT is not able to access Mac
  90. formatted CD-ROMs or hard drives and floppy access sometimes results
  91. in a "ghost" floppy appearing.  Executor normally uses a 1024 Hz clock
  92. internally to simulate a 60 Hz clock and schedule interrupts at
  93. millisecond granulatiry, but under Windows NT the 1024 Hz clock is not
  94. available, so an 18.2 Hz clock is used instead.

  96. Below is the README from 1.99q7 since 1.99q8 is so similar to 1.99q7.

  100. exec19q7.zip contains a new executor.exe which brings 1.99q up to
  101. 1.99q7.  Executor/DOS 1.99q7 fixes several problems in 1.99q6:
  102.  
  103.   1) You can now capture a crash traceback to a file, with:
  104.  
  105.        executor > crash
  106.  
  107.      If Executor dies, the file "crash" will contain information
  108.      that ARDI engineers can use to (sometimes) identify and fix
  109.      the problem.
  110.  
  111.   2) Performance slowdowns introduced in 1.99q are fixed.
  112.  
  113.   3) Disk support has been substantially improved.  If you've had
  114.      trouble accessing floppies, CD-ROMs, or SCSI disks, this
  115.      version may help.  We are especially interested in feedback
  116.      on disk troubles.
  117.  
  118.   4) Some sound cards would cause Executor to hang on startup.
  119.      Executor will now detect such cards and ignore them.
  120.  
  121.   5) More printing fixes.
  122.  
  123.   6) Some miscellaneous bugs were fixed, including a bug preventing
  124.      OpenProlog from working.
