- There was a company that tried to clone Mac ROMS by substituting X-Windows
- for the MAC OS. I don't remember the company name, but I'm sure that
- they're now out of business.
-
- The last I heard, their computers were not 100% compatible with Macintosh
- programs.
-
- I own a Magic Sac/Spectre 128 adapter for my Atari-ST. It was a real pain
- to get the ROMs. The only reason that Apple never went after Data Pacific
- was that they were small potatoes on a smaller potato computer.
-
- Our friends at ARDI have the potential to become an entirely different
- kettle of fish. If ARDI succeeds in running System 7 and associated Apps
- on an X86 platform (and then possibly port Executor to BeBox, Alpha and
- other systems). Apple will have a true Competitor.
-
- Power Computing, et. al. are not true competitors. They leave Apple free
- to target the high end market, while all of the clones grab the less
- profitable (for Apple) lower end.
-
- ARDI can grab the lowest end of all. People who want Mac Software without
- buying Mac hardware.
