  1. Here it is:  I have version 1.99q4 (or is it q5?) of the Executor demo on 
  2. my PC.  I've never been able to read/write to Mac floppy disks with it on 
  3. my machine.  But tonight I tried something:  To actually run it under 
  4. Windows 95 in a DOS box.  Previously, I'd always restart the computer in 
  5. DOS-only mode to run Executor because most graphics DOS programs run 
  6. slowly for me under Windows 95.  My processor is a Cyrix 486 srx-2 40 
  7. Mhz, which is a chip replacement for a 386sx-20.  Anyway, I tried running 
  8. Executor in a DOS box, and it didn't work.  In fact, Win95 gave me an 
  9. error message saying Executor tried an "illegal operation" and would be 
  10. terminated.  Here's where things get interesting.  I then chose "shut 
  11. down" from the Start menu and chose "restart in DOS mode" to run executor 
  12. that way, and I was then able to read a mac-formatted disk!  Not only 
  13. that, but I have repeated the experiment and it allows me to format blank 
  14. disks in mac format as well!  Although it is kind of a hassle to run 
  15. Executor, wait for the error message, restart in DOS mode, and run 
  16. executor (making sure that when I start executor a mac disk is in the 
  17. drive), it does work.  Somehow.

  19. Besides this quirk, Executor is a great program.  I've been downloading 
  20. software from the Internet and more has worked than not, as long as I 
  21. don't choose something with graphics which are too demanding.  I'm 
  22. registering Monday, provided I can get the student rate of $50.
