- News: Executor ready to run Mac apps on Intel PCs
-
- By David Morgenstern
-
- Pushing Mac software toward alien desktops, Abacus Research and
- Development Inc. will expand platform support for its Executor Mac
- emulator. Version 2.0 will run on Intel-standard PCs, in addition to the
- Unix and NeXT platforms currently supported.
-
- The $249 software, due in March, will run most System 6-compatible
- applications, and many "well-behaved" System 7 programs. ARDI said a
- 90-MHz Pentium system will offer speedier performance than a Quadra 610
- with a 25-MHz 68040 processor. A $99 "pre-beta" is available now.
-
- ARDI said the updated emulator will read Mac floppies as well as hard
- drives. It will not support applications that depend on System 7.5
- features such as QuickDraw GX or QuickTime. In addition, Version 2.0 will
- not provide network and serial connections.
-
- According to ARDI, the emulator is aimed at cross-platform users and sites
- moving from the Mac to other platforms. Version 2.0 will support DOS,
- NeXTStep, OS/2, Windows 3.1, Windows 95 and Unix systems.
