  4.     I am a new experimenter with Executor and I am very impressed
  5. with what I have seen so far.  My main interest in Executor is to
  6. run Macdraw II on a DOS box, 'cause I can't afford to buy a separate
  7. computer just to run one program and I really like Macdraw a lot.
  8. I don't think anything else comes close!

  10.     I have tried Executor/DOS on two systems and the problems I describe
  11. below are present on both systems.  Here are the system descriptions:

  13. System 1.       CPU     80486-40 DX (AMD)
  14.         RAM     16 MEGs
  15.      Video Card     S3-805 by Xing
  16.             Executor Info says Vesa 1.2 compliant
  17.       2 Hard Drives     540 M and 850 M, divided into 4 Logical DOS
  18.             Drives and 2 Linux drives.
  19.         DOS     6.2
  20.  
  21. System 2.       CPU     80486-33 DX
  22.         RAM     4 MEGs
  23.        Video Driver     Unknown; E -info says Vesa 1.2 compliant
  24.        1 Hard Drive     340 M   in 1 Logical Drive
  25.         DOS     6.2

  27.     So far I have had the following problems:

  29. EXECUTOR EMULATOR Desktop:
  30.  
  31. 1.  When I use the floppy, the name of its volume will not change
  32.     when I change floppies.  The sequence of events is as follows:
  33.     - Insert floppy 1
  34.     - Use CHECK FOR DISK
  35.     - New drive appears in the hot band.
  36.     - Move some files to the hard drive.
  37.     - Remove the floppy.
  38.     - Delete the drive name from the hot band.
  39.     - Insert floppy 2
  40.     - Do a:  FILE - CHECK FOR DISK
  41.     - The name for Floppy 1 appears in the hot band, not the new
  42.       name for floppy 2.
  43.     - Open the drive by double clicking in the hot band.
  44.     - Contents of floppy 2 appear, but with the floppy 1 name in
  45.       the border.
  46.     - Only way to fix name is to restart Executor.
  47.  
  48.     Is this a know bug or am I doing something wrong?  It's really not
  49. a big deal as it really doesn't seem to harm anything... it's just a
  50. little confusing as your are loading software to see the name of the
  51. previous floppy to appear again.

  54. MACDRAW II, Release 1.1

  56. 2.  SAVE does not work under the FILE pull down menu. SAVE AS works
  57. OK and as exepcted.  If you do try to do a simple SAVE which replaces
  58. or overwrites the original file, the following comes onto the screen:

  60.     HALT    Sorry, a disk error has occured.
  61.  
  62.         ERROR ID = -127
  63.

  68. This event apparently corrupts the file as Macdraw can never read
  69. that file again.  If you try to open that file then you get:
  70.  
  71.     Sorry, a disk error has occurred.

  73.     ERROR ID = <filename>

  79. This problem is a pain, but the obvious work-around is to use
  80. SAVE AS and never the (overwriting) SAVE command.

  82. Incidently, an ordinary (overwriting) SAVE works ok in Word 5.1 under
  83. Executor, so the problem seems somewhat specific to Macdraw.

  86. 3.  Text cannot be corrected within Macdraw II.  I seem to be able to
  87. create text OK, but I can't correct it without really messing up
  88. executor.  This problem is really serious since corrections cannot be
  89. made without deleting the entire text object and starting again!
  90. Sequence of events is a follows:
  91.  
  92.     - Click on the Macdraw Texttool < A >
  93.     - Click where you want to place text in the document.
  94.     - Begin Typing the text you want.
  95.     - Try to correct text with the back space key or by
  96.       highlighting the text error with the cursor and then
  97.       using the pulldown menu CUT to delete it... results
  98.       first in strange results in the text object... like the
  99.       wrong letters being deleted then evenutally a Fatal like:

  101.     Executor:  Fatal Error
  102.  
  103.     Main.C: 979; in 'unhandled_trap'
  104.  
  105.     Fatal error:  unhandled trap 4 at pc 0x0  (Illegal instruction)

  110. It is possible to use the backspace key to delete objects within
  111. Macdraw even a complete text object without any trouble.  The
  112. problem only arises when you try to modify a text object either
  113. as you are first typing it or if you select it later and try to
  114. fix it then.

  117. Has anyone on this mailing list had any experience with Macdraw and
  118. know any fixes.  Are these problems known to the ARDI and if
  119. so, what are the prospects for their repair?
  120.  
  121. How can I get a listing of all know bugs running Macdraw II under
  122. executor?...  I've tried the automatic tracking system with negative
  123. results.
