- Hello All,
-
- I am a new experimenter with Executor and I am very impressed
- with what I have seen so far. My main interest in Executor is to
- run Macdraw II on a DOS box, 'cause I can't afford to buy a separate
- computer just to run one program and I really like Macdraw a lot.
- I don't think anything else comes close!
-
- I have tried Executor/DOS on two systems and the problems I describe
- below are present on both systems. Here are the system descriptions:
-
- System 1. CPU 80486-40 DX (AMD)
- RAM 16 MEGs
- Video Card S3-805 by Xing
- Executor Info says Vesa 1.2 compliant
- 2 Hard Drives 540 M and 850 M, divided into 4 Logical DOS
- Drives and 2 Linux drives.
- DOS 6.2
-
- System 2. CPU 80486-33 DX
- RAM 4 MEGs
- Video Driver Unknown; E -info says Vesa 1.2 compliant
- 1 Hard Drive 340 M in 1 Logical Drive
- DOS 6.2
-
- So far I have had the following problems:
-
- EXECUTOR EMULATOR Desktop:
-
- 1. When I use the floppy, the name of its volume will not change
- when I change floppies. The sequence of events is as follows:
- - Insert floppy 1
- - Use CHECK FOR DISK
- - New drive appears in the hot band.
- - Move some files to the hard drive.
- - Remove the floppy.
- - Delete the drive name from the hot band.
- - Insert floppy 2
- - Do a: FILE - CHECK FOR DISK
- - The name for Floppy 1 appears in the hot band, not the new
- name for floppy 2.
- - Open the drive by double clicking in the hot band.
- - Contents of floppy 2 appear, but with the floppy 1 name in
- the border.
- - Only way to fix name is to restart Executor.
-
- Is this a know bug or am I doing something wrong? It's really not
- a big deal as it really doesn't seem to harm anything... it's just a
- little confusing as your are loading software to see the name of the
- previous floppy to appear again.
-
-
- MACDRAW II, Release 1.1
-
- 2. SAVE does not work under the FILE pull down menu. SAVE AS works
- OK and as exepcted. If you do try to do a simple SAVE which replaces
- or overwrites the original file, the following comes onto the screen:
-
- HALT Sorry, a disk error has occured.
-
- ERROR ID = -127
-
-
-
- OK
-
- This event apparently corrupts the file as Macdraw can never read
- that file again. If you try to open that file then you get:
-
- Sorry, a disk error has occurred.
-
- ERROR ID = <filename>
-
-
-
- OK
-
- This problem is a pain, but the obvious work-around is to use
- SAVE AS and never the (overwriting) SAVE command.
-
- Incidently, an ordinary (overwriting) SAVE works ok in Word 5.1 under
- Executor, so the problem seems somewhat specific to Macdraw.
-
-
- 3. Text cannot be corrected within Macdraw II. I seem to be able to
- create text OK, but I can't correct it without really messing up
- executor. This problem is really serious since corrections cannot be
- made without deleting the entire text object and starting again!
- Sequence of events is a follows:
-
- - Click on the Macdraw Texttool < A >
- - Click where you want to place text in the document.
- - Begin Typing the text you want.
- - Try to correct text with the back space key or by
- highlighting the text error with the cursor and then
- using the pulldown menu CUT to delete it... results
- first in strange results in the text object... like the
- wrong letters being deleted then evenutally a Fatal like:
-
- Executor: Fatal Error
-
- Main.C: 979; in 'unhandled_trap'
-
- Fatal error: unhandled trap 4 at pc 0x0 (Illegal instruction)
-
-
- RESTART
-
- It is possible to use the backspace key to delete objects within
- Macdraw even a complete text object without any trouble. The
- problem only arises when you try to modify a text object either
- as you are first typing it or if you select it later and try to
- fix it then.
-
-
- Has anyone on this mailing list had any experience with Macdraw and
- know any fixes. Are these problems known to the ARDI and if
- so, what are the prospects for their repair?
-
- How can I get a listing of all know bugs running Macdraw II under
- executor?... I've tried the automatic tracking system with negative
- results.
-
-
- Thanks much for any help anyone might be able to give.
