  3. I try not to clutter up the list with things like this, but perhaps by
  4. doing this once, people will see the error presented here and won't
  5. ever do it themselves if and when it's time to order Executor via FAX.
  6. If you do not know anyone from Germany who recently ordered a license
  7. for Executor/Linux, feel free to read no further.

  9. Yesterday I received a FAX that has these words electronically
  10. produced by the transmitting FAX machine.  At the top is:

  12. 26-07-1995  09:22  ALPHA 2005 GMBH BAUTZEN  +49 3591 390007

  14. at the bottom right is:

  16. GESAMT S.01

  18. In the middle of the paper is a handwritten note that says:

  20. Hello Clifford,

  22. Since our institute does not have a Credit card
  23. (neither do I), I was allowed to use the card
  24. of a friend.  Please charge for one license
  25. of Executor/Linux at the price of $49.

  33. (which I'm allowed to use as well) or to our
  34. institute (+49 3591 497214), whatever is quicker.

  42. Now I've deliberately changed the credit card numbers to "x"s for
  43. obvious reasons, but I honestly can't read the Juergen's last name,
  44. nor do I know the author's name, although "Edward" may be it.  I can't
  45. get our FAX modem to connect to either the FAX number in the body or
  46. the one at the top of the FAX.  I don't know what institute our friend
  47. is talking about, and I don't speak German, so calling those numbers
  48. and hoping to speak to a person isn't yet practical.

  50. I'm hoping that the person who sent this FAX is on this list.  If not,
  51. I'll have to figure out what town in Germany is 3591 (or maybe 359, or
  52. 35, or 3).  Or perhaps someone knows what "ALPHA 2005 GMBH BAUTZEN"
  53. is.

  55. Thanks for any help you can provide me.  If you're thinking about
  56. sending us a FAX, please think very hard about the possibility of
  57. sending it via a FAX modem, or if that is impossible, about the
  58. possibility of printing the letter rather than writing it by hand, and
  59. *of course* put enough information to uniquely identify yourself --
  60. I've checked my recent e-mail, but I get so much e-mail that I could
  61. be overlooking someone.
