  3. Good news. I (finally) found a Resource Editor that works with Executor 1.99m.
  4. As you will recall there have been extensive reports by a.o. myself that
  5. Apple's ResEdit does
  6. not work (seems to work but it crashes whenever you try to do something
  7. useful - come to think
  8. of it that that is more or less the definition of a computer anyway!).

  10. The one that does work is a very, very, very old version, namely the
  11. precursor to ResEdit, called
  12. REdit. Its release date is January, 7th 1986 so it is a bit obsolete to say
  13. the least.

  15. This was the first publicly available resource editor from Apple (and
  16. probably still is copyrighted
  17. by Apple). The version (1.2) I tested comes from CompuServe, but it might be
  18. available on the net also.

  20. The program (REDIT.APP) probably is much more limited than ResEdit 2.1.3 but
  21. it is a start.
  22. There also is an excellent (MacWrite) manual in the file REDIT.WRT
  23.  
  24. I tried editing an icon and that worked fine (in b/w though; in 1986 there
  25. were no color Macs).

  27. I fully agree with Clifford's remarks about not uploading software to this
  28. mailing list so you will not find
  29. it here, but if someone emails me directly I can send the two files to you.
  30. Please bear in mind that this
  31. probably still is Apple copyrighted software which implies that you probably
  32. can only use this software
  33. legally when you own a Mac (thus having paid for the operating system). I
  34. own a PB165 so I am fine =:-)
