  3.     I forgot to answer your first question of your last letter,  
  4. but luckily the answer fits better here than there.  It is possible  
  5. that you heard about V2.0, but only because we didn't finalize our  
  6. number scheme until recently.  Probably what you heard about as 2.0  
  7. is really going to be in V1.2.  While we are still qualifying the  
  8. "big ticket" applications, the revision numbers will increase after  
  9. the decimal point.  Here's what we've released so far and what our  
  10. plans are:

  12.     V1.0    the first non-beta version Word 4.0 only
  13.     V1.1    limited printing, but basically same as V1.0
  14.     V1.1.1    diacritical character support (this was a real
  15.         mistake on our part; V1.1.1 was released two weeks
  16.         after V1.1 was released.  Our european friends were
  17.         not happy that we forgot to put the support in V1.1,
  18.         so we made V1.1.1 and shipped it to our overseas
  19.         customers)

  21.     DEMO-1    While preparing V1.2 for release we found out that we
  22.         could put a demo version on a soon to be made NeXT
  23.         CD ROM.  However the deadline is April 22.  We took
  24.         time off and put together the demo.  It has a couple
  25.         of features that aren't present in V1.1.1.  When
  26.         something kills Executor, a "Death Certificate" is
  27.         printed, and the application doesn't go away until
  28.         you say so.  This gives people a chance to print a
  29.         screen dump.  DEMO-1 is also able to run programs
  30.         directly off of floppy disks (although since it is
  31.         extremely limited, you can't really use this)
  32.  
  33.     V1.2:    Is not out yet; illness and the preparation of DEMO-1
  34.         slowed us down a bit.  This version will have
  35.         everything mentioned in the previous versions as well
  36.         as:

  38.         Excel 3.0a support (costs extra to enable this)
  39.  
  40.         Word 5 support (doesn't cost extra money)
  41.  
  42.         Quicken, MacMoney, Stuffit, Compactor Pro support
  43.                 (these don't require extra money)
  44.  
  45.         Complete printing support:
  46.                Circles, Arcs, underlining, etc.
  47.                Proper font metrics used so text aligns nicely
  48.                Printing works from other applications
  49.  
  50.         You will be able to traverse your entire filesystem,
  51.                rather than be limited to "Volumes"
  52.  
  53.         You will be able to start executor by double clicking
  54.                on applications and files
  55.  
  56.         Better packaging (probably exceedingly similar to
  57.             Stone Design's packaging for Create and
  58.             DataPhile)
  59.  
  60.         Better documentation to go in the packaging
  61.  
  62.         Bug fixes for better interaction with GatorBoxes and
  63.             the like
  64.  
  65.         Support for multiple floppy drives
  66.  
  67.         (One thing that was slated to go into V1.2 but isn't
  68.         is direct support for mac formatted hard drives.  We
  69.         may support them as read only volumes, but event that
  70.         looks like it may slip)

  72.     V1.3:    Will take advantage of as much cool stuff in NeXTstep
  73.         3.0 as we can.  We don't have an advance copy of
  74.         NS3.0, so I can't say exactly what will and won't
  75.         work.  My understanding is that V1.2 will work under
  76.         NextStep 3.0 without modification.

  78.         It's speculation, but apps that we'll be working on
  79.         will include QuarkXPress, Mac Draw Pro,
  80.         Cricket Graph and SimAnt.

  82.     more 1.x releases will be made as more applications are
  83.     supported.  We'll focus on the "big ticket" apps, whose
  84.     support will bring in more direct revenue, but also listen
  85.     to our customers and try to get out the important "freebies"
  86.  
  87.     V2.0 will have color support.  This is probably at least a
  88.     year and a half away.

  90. The upgrade policy is simple:  V1.2 will be shipped automatically,  
  91. for free to everyone who purchases V1.2 or an earlier version (so buy  
  92. now, your money will just help us grow faster).  After that,  
  93. successive upgrades will be available either for the cost of the  
  94. support for additional "big ticket" apps that you want, or if you  
  95. want an upgrade, but no additional "big ticket" support, it will be  
  96. $20.
