- Linux has several advantages over dos, in Linux you can change the
- resolution of the desktop if using X without having to reboot.
-
- File I/O is much faster, running speedometer shows how much faster it is.
- Sound support in Linux is much better, it should work for any sound card
- that Linux support, not just soundblasters.
-
- : : If you run in X windows then you can run other stuff like Netscape at the

-
- : : Since you have virtual memory you can run programs that require more
- : : memory (and it will probably swap better than a real mac since mac's file
- : : and VM systems really suck)
-
- : : You don't need the hfv volumes since the linux filesystem can handle long
- : : filenames. Plus you will find that the linux filesystem is *much* faster
- : : than a DOS FAT system.
- : CD-ROM is faster under E/L than E/D.
-
- : : X will be slower than SVGAlib. If your card is supported for SVGAlib then
- : : it should run about the same speed as in DOS. If your card is supported
- : : using the UniVBE thing then it might run faster in DOS.

- X for practical purposed runs pretty fast, and all X windows programs
- run much more reliable in X compare to sgvalib non x programs, especially
- when switching destops.
- When running games, or programs video intensive the SVGAlib version of
- executor is very usefull or if you don't have X.
-
- In Linux you can run as many programs as you want at the same time and
- due true multitasking, not half multitasking like win95.
- Linux is also much more stable than dos, win31, or win95.
