  20. Well, thanks to Andy Hanton's kind assistance, I now have a copy of
  21. the original Mac version of LodeRunner to play around with.  So far
  22. no luck with recent Executor versions, but my partial success with
  23. Executor 1.3 leads me to suspect that the situation is not quite as
  24. hopeless as it seems....

  26. Under 1.3, Executor complains that the file does not have the
  27. permissions properly set, and that it must be run once as root.
  28. (The executable for LodeRunner is chown 200, chgrp 21, chmod 644,
  29. just like everything else in the ExecutorVolume, so this is a
  30. bit mysterious.)  The program runs perfectly, albeit slowly, as
  31. root, but the permissions message remains unchanged---I can only
  32. run it when I am root.

  34. Under 1.99q12, Executor dies instantly---just vanishes---when I
  35. try to run LodeRunner as root.  When I run it as an ordinary
  36. user, I get a "HALT: Unable to recover from error. You may return
  37. to the Finder."  Changing the screen size to 512x342, on the
  38. assumption that a very old program might expect this, has no
  39. effect on this behavior.

  41. Is there anything I can do to try to figure out more about what's
  42. going wrong here?  I suppose if it doesn't run by 1.99q12, it's
  43. probably too late to hope for it to run under 2.0, but the fact
  44. that it runs fine (as root only) under 1.3 suggests to me that 
  45. there _might_ be something I can tweak.  I welcome suggestions!
