- I am not sure if the original message I had sent made it.
-
- First off: I work at an Egghead software locally. I have come accross at
- least a dozen people who need the functionality of E/DOS mostly. (Only 2
- people have ever come in wanting anything to do with Linux, which is
- placed *Slackware 3* poorly (?) in CD-ROM reference). Anyway, getting
- back to the point, I have told them where to get the E/DOS demos.
- Hopefully it met there needs and they bought it.
-
- If ARDI were to pursue getting Executor into the retail market, they could
- make a killing. We have demo machines that we run software on, and
- because of this, it results in many more sales. Customers like to see the
- product before they buy it. The problems with the potential plans (at
- least the way I understand them), of not allowing people to DL a demo is
- that they can't see the potential that E/DOS has. Even if its limited to
- ten minutes, a fully functional demo helps alot. (You can leave off the
- disk writes/formatting.) The other problem is that E/DOS is in internet
- terms on a 28800 modem, a huge program. 2.8 megs at 28800 at OPTIMAL
- conditions takes a long time.
-
- I guess the point is that E/DOS could sell a whole lot more if it were in
- a commercialized retail environment. I think one of the things that also
- kinda throws people off (I know it does me), is that you can't see it in a
- store, so you get a sense that possibly something is fishy.
-
- I URGE you to talk to Eggheag corporate (or any retailler, preferably
- Eggheag), and get E/DOS in the stores. As it stands, we can't even
- special order it for customers, if they want it.
-
- I did toy with Executor for a while (have such little time), and Photoshop
- seems to work. No more disk IO error. It loads graphics (JPEG) from a
- DOS partition. (I have a licensed Windows version). It displays them. I
- do have to say though, DO NOT run PhotoShop on a 486 66 with 8 megs of RAM
- allocated to the application zone.
-
- Did not look at Illustrator yet. I will DL the newest beta sometime (too
- big), and let you know.
