- Hi Folks,
-
- ftp.ardi.com and vorlon.mit.edu contain the DEMO version of
- Executor/DOS 2 beta0. NOTE: No non-DEMO versions of Executor 2 beta
- or Executor 2 proper will ever be available electronically, thanks in
- part to all the cracks of Executor that are floating about.
-
- ALL Executor 1.x licensees will automatically be sent a CD-ROM
- containing Executor 2 in its glory when we're done with the beta cycle
- and it's back from the duplicator. We will be able to distribute
- patches that use information from the CD-ROM to update Executor so you
- won't be cut out of the experimental/bleeding edge loop. We'll be
- trying very hard to keep the beta cycle as short as possible so that
- all the people who have paid money to us will be back in that loop as
- soon as possible.

- +========================================================================+
- | NOTE: Now that Executor 2 is in beta testing, the demo version of |
- | Executor can no longer be unlocked with a serial number and |
- | authorization code. |
- | |
- | If you have already licensed Executor 1.x, feel free to pick up the |
- | demo version of Executor from this directory, but MAKE SURE YOU |
- | INSTALL IT SOMEWHERE OTHER THAN WHERE YOU NORMALLY INSTALL EXECUTOR, |
- | because you will want to continue using your pre-beta copy of Executor |
- | 2 until Executor 2 is out of beta testing and we have sent you a |
- | CD-ROM with the non-crippled version of Executor. |
- | |
- | If you haven't yet licensed Executor and you like what you see in the |
- | demo, you can order a non-crippled version of Executor (call +1 505 |
- | 766 9115 and have a VISA or MasterCard handy) and we will send the |
- | non-crippled version to you on floppy disk. |
- +========================================================================+
-
- The latest Executor demo comes in two formats: a single
- self-extracting archive (execbta0.exe), and a two floppy set
- (bt0flop1.zip and bt0flop2.zip). You only need to grab either
- execbta0.exe, or both bt0flop1.zip and bt0flop2.zip. Most users will
- just want to grab execbta0.exe, but be warned that it will not fit on
- a single floppy.
-
- If you have a video card that is not VESA 2 compliant, you may also
- need uvbe51a.zip. NOTE: the "2" is important. Executor is *much*
- faster when it can linearly map the frame buffer; this is a feature
- that VESA 2 provides that VESA 1 did not provide.
-
- csdpmi1s.zip is the source code to cwsdpmi.exe, the DPMI server that
- we bundle with Executor. Most people will not want to download this.
-
- utilities contains DOS utilities that may be helpful to advanced
- Executor users. Currently utilities only contains trim.com, a program
- that will strip the first 84 bytes off a file which is useful for
- converting floppy disk image files into HFVs.
-
- To install from execbta0.exe, the self-extracting archive file, just
- run it. You can skip the installation directions for the two disk
- set.
-
- To install from the two disk set, you can use one of two methods:
- either make two installation floppies, or install directly from the
- contents of the zip files. Detailed instructions follow.
-
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKING INSTALLATION FLOPPIES
-
- use BINARY mode to fetch exqdisk1.zip and bt0flop2.zip onto
- your machine on C:\
-
- set aside two blank, formatted floppies
-
- put in your first floppy and then tell DOS you want to use
- that drive (usually done by typing "a:" or "b:")
-
- unzip -d c:\bt0flop1.zip
-
- change floppies
-
- unzip -d c:\bt0flop2.zip
-
- You should then be able to take those two floppies to an '386 or
- better and install Executor by putting in the first sloppy and typing
- "A:install" (assuming your floppy drive is drive a).
-
- INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING FROM THE ZIP FILES
-
- use BINARY mode to fetch bt0flop1.zip and bt0flop2.zip onto
- your machine on C:\
-
- mkdir scratch
-
- cd scratch
-
- unzip -d c:\bt0flop1.zip
-
- unzip -d c:\bt0flop2.zip
-
- install
-
- You will then be running the installer and be given a chance to
- specify where Executor should be installed. After you are done, you
- can remove your scratch directory.
-
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- After you install Executor, you'll find a "docs" subdirectory that
- provides more information about Executor, and the technology that was
- used to build it.
-
- uvbe51a.zip is a shareware SVGA extender that provides VESA capability
- for many older non-VESA compliant SVGA cards. It is not a product of
- ARDI. If you use it, you should pay the shareware fee as described in
- the documentation included in the zip file. If you have a recent SVGA
- card you probably don't need UniVBE. There may be a more recent
- version of UniVBE in oak.oakland.edu:/SimTel/msdos/graphics.
