  16. ftp.ardi.com and vorlon.mit.edu contain the DEMO version of
  17. Executor/DOS 2 beta0.  NOTE: No non-DEMO versions of Executor 2 beta
  18. or Executor 2 proper will ever be available electronically, thanks in
  19. part to all the cracks of Executor that are floating about.
  20.  
  21. ALL Executor 1.x licensees will automatically be sent a CD-ROM
  22. containing Executor 2 in its glory when we're done with the beta cycle
  23. and it's back from the duplicator.  We will be able to distribute
  24. patches that use information from the CD-ROM to update Executor so you
  25. won't be cut out of the experimental/bleeding edge loop.  We'll be
  26. trying very hard to keep the beta cycle as short as possible so that
  27. all the people who have paid money to us will be back in that loop as
  28. soon as possible.

  56. The latest Executor demo comes in two formats: a single
  57. self-extracting archive (execbta0.exe), and a two floppy set
  58. (bt0flop1.zip and bt0flop2.zip).  You only need to grab either
  59. execbta0.exe, or both bt0flop1.zip and bt0flop2.zip.  Most users will
  60. just want to grab execbta0.exe, but be warned that it will not fit on
  61. a single floppy.

  63. If you have a video card that is not VESA 2 compliant, you may also
  64. need uvbe51a.zip.  NOTE: the "2" is important.  Executor is *much*
  65. faster when it can linearly map the frame buffer; this is a feature
  66. that VESA 2 provides that VESA 1 did not provide.

  68. csdpmi1s.zip is the source code to cwsdpmi.exe, the DPMI server that
  69. we bundle with Executor.  Most people will not want to download this.
  70.  
  71. utilities contains DOS utilities that may be helpful to advanced
  72. Executor users.  Currently utilities only contains trim.com, a program
  73. that will strip the first 84 bytes off a file which is useful for
  74. converting floppy disk image files into HFVs.
  75.  
  76. To install from execbta0.exe, the self-extracting archive file, just
  77. run it.  You can skip the installation directions for the two disk
  78. set.

  80. To install from the two disk set, you can use one of two methods:
  81. either make two installation floppies, or install directly from the
  82. contents of the zip files.  Detailed instructions follow.

  86. INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKING INSTALLATION FLOPPIES

  88.     use BINARY mode to fetch exqdisk1.zip and bt0flop2.zip onto
  89.     your machine on C:\

  91.     set aside two blank, formatted floppies
  92.  
  93.     put in your first floppy and then tell DOS you want to use
  94.     that drive  (usually done by typing "a:" or "b:")
  95.  
  96.     unzip -d c:\bt0flop1.zip

  100.     unzip -d c:\bt0flop2.zip

  102. You should then be able to take those two floppies to an '386 or
  103. better and install Executor by putting in the first sloppy and typing
  104. "A:install" (assuming your floppy drive is drive a).

  122. specify where Executor should be installed.  After you are done, you
  123. can remove your scratch directory.

  127. After you install Executor, you'll find a "docs" subdirectory that
  128. provides more information about Executor, and the technology that was
  129. used to build it.

  131. uvbe51a.zip is a shareware SVGA extender that provides VESA capability
  132. for many older non-VESA compliant SVGA cards.  It is not a product of
  133. ARDI.  If you use it, you should pay the shareware fee as described in
  134. the documentation included in the zip file.  If you have a recent SVGA
  135. card you probably don't need UniVBE.  There may be a more recent
  136. version of UniVBE in oak.oakland.edu:/SimTel/msdos/graphics.
