  12. Once again, ARDI has completely and utterly "WOW"ed me.  I just installed 
  13. E/D 1.99q10 on my machine and IT IS SWEET!!!  Whatever you're doing with 
  14. your new sound library, keep it up (aside from fixing bugs, of course) -- 
  15. hte new sound sounds GREAT, and is much smoother, especially in the 
  16. arcade/shoot-em-up type games I play e.g. Solarian, Maelstrom, etc.  And 
  17. it actually seems to run at a decent pace under Win95, except of course 
  18. for lacking the VESA 2.0 features (for some reason, I can only run UniVBE 
  19. under straight DOS...)

  21. The new sound code seems to initialize cleaner.  Prior versions would 
  22. always cause my speakers to make a LOUD **POP** noise when Executor first 
  23. starts up, which really grated on my nerves (kinda like someone drawing 
  24. their nails down a chalkboard).  This does not occur in 1.99q10.  Yes!

  26. I'm not sure why others are having problems with the new sound code, but 
  27. I certainly am not.  It works like a charm for me.  I have a genuine SB16 
  28. Basic card (a fairly recent model, from last year I think) at I/O 220, 
  29. IRQ 10, DRQ 1/6, and MIDI I/O 330.  (this is due to the Adaptec SCSI and 
  30. network cards I have in my machine, which insist on taking DRQ 5 and I/O 
  31. 300, respectively).  My BLASTER environment variable is set, and I run 
  32. the SB16 programs (SB16SET and SBCONFIG) from my AUTOEXEC.BAT.  Perhaps 
  33. some of the folks having problems are forgetting to set these things up, 
  34. or can't (For example, I'm not sure if SB clone cards' SETUP programs set 
  35. up a BLASTER environment variable, etc.)  I disabled these for the 
  36. longest time, since I figured that Win95 was properly initializing the 
  37. sound card and all... until a few of my DOS-based games started losing 
  38. their sound, that is.
