  21. If you ever need accents under Executor, read on.
  22.  
  23. I have a US keyboard, but most of what I write is in French or Portuguese.
  24. Happily, the Mac standard supports accents, and Executor does so too (again,
  25. Kudos to Ardi). Usually, to get accents on a Mac, all you do is type Alt-e
  26. then a letter and you get an acute accented letter, etc... This way, you can
  27. get all the accents you need, even for German, Swedish, Spanish, etc... This
  28. mechanism works very well under Executor.
  29. However, some users (like me) prefer to just type an accent, then a letter
  30. and presto, you have your accented letter. If you want an accent without a
  31. letter, just type the accent followed by space. This is how I type accents
  32. under Window$ 3.1x and Window$95, using the US-International keyboard
  33. layout.
  34. How do you get this under Executor?
  35. Step 1) Get a package called easy-accents.hqx in one of the many Mac
  36. Archives. This package contains a resource KCHR.

  38. Step 2) Under the System Folder in Executor, you will find a file called
  39. System. This file contains many Mac resources, among them all the keyboard
  40. layouts supported by Executor.

  42. Step 3) Get a copy of Resedit. I got 2.1.3 from Apple on the Web.

  44. Step 4) Go to a Mac. Unfortunately, I couldn't use Resedit under Executor,
  45. and Resourcerer doesn't allow writes under the shareware version.

  47. Step 5) Use Resedit to cut and paste between the easy-accents file and the
  48. Executor System file. You can even edit a number of resources using resedit!
  49. I just edited the KCHR resource. Rename the new resource to one of the
  50. keyboard layouts Executor recognizes. I used US, so I deleted the old
  51. resource and substituted by the new one.

  53. Step 6) Copy the system file back to the Executor System Folder directory.

  55. Step 7) Launch executor with all the switches plus the -keyboard
  56. whatever-name switch. I used executor -keyboard US.

  58. Step 8) Enjoy!

  60. This should work under E/L and E/D.

  62. One additional note for Executor/Linux users. If you use the new XFree 3.12D
  63. X Window server, you have to disable the new Xkbd extension to allow the
  64. dead keys under Executor. Just launch the X server with a -kbd switch or
  65. include the appropriate line in the XF86Config file.

  67. I guess Ardi can include a USINT KCHR resource in the new releases of
  68. Executor (are you listening, Ardi gurus?). But you can also customize many
  69. things with Resedit in the System file. All the usual Mac hacks, in fact.
