  29. I think that "most" installers *do* work, unfortunately the installer
  30. for Word 5 doesn't, and that's fairly popular.  I know there are some
  31. others that don't work as well, but Word 5 is the one that bites us
  32. the most.

  34. Installers based on Stuffit all should work.
  35. Smaller Installer (based on Compact Pro) should work.
  36. VISE based installers should work.

  38. There are two major problems.
  39.  
  40. The first problem is that at one time Apple's Installer (which is what
  41. Word 5 uses, for instance) did some bad things, like call context
  42. dependent subroutines that looked back on the stack to determine from
  43. where they had been called.  That installer was used by a number of
  44. programs and all of them had trouble not only under Executor, but also
  45. under Apple's own Macintosh Applications Environment (MAE) version 1
  46. (I think they've fixed it).

  48. The second problem is that Executor isn't as clever about remembering
  49. the contents of disks that have already been ejected as MacOS is, so
  50. installers that count on the ability to have an ejected volume still
  51. on-line will not work under Executor.  After Executor 2 ships we'll
  52. devote some time to solving this problem.
