  27. As primarily a PC and UNIX user and a computer science major, i'm rather 
  28. confounded by apple's policy towards proprietary information and closed 
  29. systems.  Business-wise, apple is somewhat floundering these last few quarters 
  30. due to mass migration to more open  platforms, and the resurgence of unix as a 
  31. viable alternative for the masses (ergo the success of Linux and UNIX's 
  32. prominence in internet functions, as well as UNIX's diversity as an 
  33. instructional tool).  I enjoy apple machines greatly, and some of the software 
  34. implemented on these machines is far more cost-effective in terms of usability 
  35. and production than the same software on other platforms, mainly in the graphic 
  36. design department, so I have a major interest in ARDI acheiving full 
  37. compatibility.  As apple is no longer the leader in technological 
  38. breakthroughs, the logical step is to implement the Mac/OS as a 
  39. platform-independent medium, such that apple maintains its intellectual 
  40. property while diversifying its markets instead of closing in on its current 
  41. business paranoia.  In a world where we are all trying to share information, 
  42. apple is making it really difficult by playing the bully.
