  19. I know it hasn't been long since we released 1.99q7 and that 1.99q7
  20. promised to help with the great Mac media accessing problems that some
  21. of you have been having, and that 1.99q7 helped some but not others,
  22. but 1.99q8 is now available for DOS, and it *doesn't* help with the
  23. great Mac media accessing problems.

  25. Basically the problems with Executor accessing Mac formatted floppies,
  26. hard disks and CD-ROMs are in my domain, and since 1.99q7 didn't fix
  27. all of the problems, I've had to go back to the drawing board.  In the
  28. meantime, Mat has been working full-throttle and he's added two new
  29. pieces of functionality:

  31.     by working around a bug in Windows NT, Executor/DOS now runs
  32.     on that platform
  33.  
  34.     on systems where the VESA 2 driver shows that there are 24-bit
  35.     DACs present, Executor uses them
  36.

  38. best place to grap 1.99q8.  After the other mirrors pick it up we'll
  39. adjust our Web pages to point to it, but you have to fetch it by hand
  40. until then.

  46. There will be no q8 release for non-DOS systems.  There are a few bug
  47. fixes in 1.99q8, but we'll have 1.99q9 or 1.99r out fairly soon
  48. anyway.

  53. Here's the beginning of the README associated with 1.99q8:

  55. exec19q8.zip contains a new executor.exe which brings 1.99q up to
  56. 1.99q8.  There have not been many changes to Executor beyond 1.99q7,
  57. so don't expect many bugs to have been fixed.  However, 1.99q8 has two
  58. features that some people will find handy:

  60.         Executor/DOS 1.99q8 runs under Windows NT
  61.  
  62.         Executor/DOS 1.99q8 takes advantage of 24-bit DACs on systems
  63.         that have 24-bit DACs and a VESA 2 driver
  64.  
  65. NOTE: Executor/DOS under Windows NT is not able to access Mac
  66. formatted CD-ROMs or hard drives and floppy access sometimes results
  67. in a "ghost" floppy appearing.  Executor normally uses a 1024 Hz clock
  68. internally to simulate a 60 Hz clock and schedule interrupts at
  69. millisecond granulatiry, but under Windows NT the 1024 Hz clock is not
  70. available, so an 18.2 Hz clock is used instead.
