Yes, it's a bug.  In fact, it's a horrible, show-stopping, beta-cdrom
delaying bug.

Try running with the "-nosound" option until 1.99q8 comes out.  We
made a bunch of progress with 1.99q7 and hope we're on the track to
fixing this insidious problem.
