  1. Using NIH-Image under E/L(X)1.99q I still experience a few bugs. 
  2.  
  3. 1) Image's built-in text editor breaks frequently, forgetting the insertion
  4. point and improperly redrawing text (like when you backspace past the
  5. beginning of a line.) 
  6.  
  7. 2) It's mostly cosmetic, but the selection tools are not displaying until
  8. the mouse is released. (Maybe only under X?)
  9.  
  10. 3) The line selection tool leaves permanent garbage when dragged around
  11. outside of its original bounds (sometimes).
  12.  
  13. OTOH I managed to implement a sort of unix "semaphore" and now I can use 
  14. Image as a display device and trigger Image macros from other X processes.

  34. Since 1/1/96 I've downloaded ~350 programs newly posted on the internet.
  35. Knowing you are busy with other things I'd like to contribute the
  36. following results as to errors and problems I encountered. The good news
  37. is that I got almost a third of them to work. Please note I downloaded
  38. _everything_ that was  new unless I knew it would not work,eg, PPC or a
  39. comm pgm. The following table is in order of frequency of the error:
  40.                    1.Fatal Errors-no surprise here.
  41.                         C_GetIconSuite
  42.                         OSDispatch
  43. --                     SoundDispatch
  44.                         ScriptUtil
  45.                         HFSDispatch
  46.                         ProcessManager
  47.                     2.Need QuickTime
  48.                     3.No FPU
  49.                     4.Need Sys 7.0.0    
  50.                     5.GPF
  51.                     6.Misc
  52.                          Need Serial suport-otherwise the pgm seemed to
  53. work
  54.                          Gestalt error
  55.                          Need Thread Manager-DarkForces Demo
  56.                          Cannot read monitor gamma table
  57.                          Nothing happens-the program makes bckgrnd noises
  58. and
  59.                                            just sits there or goes back
  60. to E/D.

  62. And if I may the following pgms would make great additions the CDROM you
  63. are working on as sample pgms to show off Executor. Note S means the
  64. sound works well if not perfectly. All pgms were tested on my P5-60 16M
  65. system with a clgd5426 1M video card with settings as follows:sys 6.0.7,
  66. animation, 0 refresh,newline mapping, disk access, colors 256. Acceptions
  67. to thses are noted below. Also assume the pgms are in color.

  69. AllDay 4.5-  Calendar w/ holidays and dates of your choosing. Pick
  70. colors. Battuere 1.0- Chess variant.-S- with beautiful color. Black Box
  71. 1.2.3- Find the hidden balls.-S-.
  72. Buffalo 1.0- Color tile game.Not mahjonng.
  73. CalcWorks 1.4.2- Four in one calculator w/ conversions.
  74. DOCMaker 4.2- Make stand alone documents.
  75. Dark Wood 2.0- RPG in living color.
  76. Fund Manager 3.0- Manager your portfolio.-B&W-
  77. FlashWorks 1.0- Foreign language vocabulary test with Fr, Ger, Span, Heb,
  78. &            
  79.                   words of ~1200 each.
  80. Gestalt.Appl 2.6.6- System analyzer. (All the ones I tried say E/D has no
  81. FPU) Glider 3.1.2- Fly the paper airplane through the room.-B&W- GnuChess
  82. Mac40b5f- Good chess game-B&W-
  83. GoldPusher 1.3- Leprechaun pushes his pot of gold to the rainbow to get
  84. to next

  86. GopherGolf- Fabulous color PuttPutt golf.Six courses with 3 game limit
  87.              for each-S-.
  88. Graphic Converter 2.3.1- Outstanding viewer/converter with cursor acting
  89. as
  90.              a magnifying glass.
  91. HyperCard 2.1- Newer versions don't work. But I'd sugest the following
  92. pgm
  93.              to get with/for HyperCard Player:
  94.              Book- write a book and draw pictures in it. The book is in
  95. color
  96.                      but the pictures are not.
  97.              Cindy's Recipes- Yep, a cookbook-B&W-
  98.              Guide to the Artist- Good example of HyperText Stacks out
  99. there.
  100.              Tug of Word 2.5- Hangman variant-B&W-
  101.              ZEBI- unscramble the word-B&W-
  102. INITGestalt Inspector 1.0
  103. Lose Your Marbles 1.0- Fill the board of your choosing with differnet
  104. colored
  105.              marbles to win.
  106. MacDos 3.0- DOS for Mac. A command screen pgm with basic DOS commands.
  107. MicroWorld 2.0- Moleculer viewer/manipulator with lots of examples.
  108. MacSki 1.6- Excellent downhill ski program.Also design your own course-S-
  109. PolyKin 1.0- Tetris variant.
  110. ResEdit 2.1.3- You have to include this.
  111. ScrapIt Pro 5.01FAT-30 day limit. Scrapbook for text.pictures,sounds.
  112. Spheres- Quickly construct a path before balls start to roll.-S- Sirtet-
  113. 1 or 2 man tetris game. Use PS.
  114. SolitaireTillDawn 2.1- 20+solitaire card games.
  115. Tanagrams 3.18- Make the picture with given geometric shapes. Great
  116. color. TaskMaker 2.2.1- Beautiful RPG with voices you understand!-S-
  117. TechTool 1.0.9- Another sys analyzer.
  118. Tronish 1.3.2- EtchOSketch game.
  119. Unzip 5.12- For those who prefer zip. Viewer also.
  120. War of Flowers- Beautiful oriental card game.
  121. Wolfenstein- Of couse.-S-
  122. Word Connection 1.0.8- Boggle variant but you design the board, word
  123. length
  124.               sound,font.-S-
  125. XConq 7.0.1- If you like Civilization this is it. Pick your time
  126. period,location. ZipIt 1.3.5- Of course, with Unzip.

  128. The other pgms that worked were limited in some way which you don't want
  129. to show the limitations of E/D. Although there were some excellent ones
  130. they were too s-l-o-w. If you can take time to look at a few Sharp
  131. looking games sometime try out the following:
  132.                 Giza 1.9- Sys 7.0.0.Beautiful color. Takes place in a
  133. pyramid
  134.                            with the well known wall murals. S-l-o-w.
  135.  
  136.                 Vitamin- Use PS. Another beautiful game with a flying bug
  137.                           avoiding obstacles to get vitamins(go
  138. Figure)S-l-o-w.
