Wolf3D is actually pretty fast if your system is set up to let Wolf3D
directly access your svga card.  To do that (under Executor/DOS, which
I assume you are using), you need UniVBE installed (so you get a VBE
2.0 compatible video driver) and you need to run Executor under plain
DOS (without QEMM, etc.)  If you can't do that, turning on "use
quickdraw" in the Wolf3D menu helps, and make sure that "refresh" mode
is off in the alt-shift-5 preferences panel.

The eccentricities of PC video hardware make it difficult for Executor
to run certain Mac games at the proper speed.  In general, games are
not a very good benchmark for anything but games.  :-)

Hopefully Win95+DirectDraw will allow games to run under Executor at
full speed on more systems.

I was reading about the upcoming update for the MacOS known as Copland.
Apple will apparently, to cope with the growing clone market and
incompatibility issues, introduce a hardware abstaction layer (HAL),
making the new operating system ROM independent and disk based.

Won't this make development of Executor a lot easier, if Apple can
deliver on HAL?

Could all the effort going into replicating the functionality of the ROMs
be going to waste, as all that would be needed is to buy Copland and
install it over the emulated hardware.

(Quicktime, Publish and Subscribe,etc.). I don't know if you've heard of
Nutek--a Taiwanese company that made a dual processor clone that runs PC
and Mac OS.  By some  fancy legal footwork,they got around the copyright
issue with the Mac Roms, but they died just the same since their emulator
could only run about ten programs verrry slooowly.

Hasn't anyone figured out a way to get the Mac ROMs on an add-on PC board
and write an emulator around that?  The ROMs should be freely available
from junked Macs.

You apparently don't know them very well.  :-)  Macs haven't been just
black and white for many years now, and my Mac at work is pretty slick
looking with its 19" SuperMAC screen.  No, System 7 ain't Warp, and
Finder could be improved, but it's a nice platform all the same...

At least one user has successfully run Executor/DOS under SoftWindows.
I believe the current SoftWindows emulates a 386, which is what E/D
requires.

No.  I tried 1.99p in SoftWindows 2.0 but Executor wouldn't start.  It
gave some sort of drive access error, which seems to indicate that
SoftWindows doesn't emulate the hard drive at a low enough level to
support Executor.

Yes the problem is with MacDraw II since if I run the same program on a
REAL mac the printing is correct even with the same data files.
