  13. I just picked up 1.99p6 the other day, and decided to try and run the
  14. Marathon 2 16-bit demo, since I couldn't seem to find the original
  15. Marathon demo around anywhere.  I ran in to a couple of problems.

  17. First of all, when I open up Stuffit Expander, and try to alter the 
  18. preferences, it crashes with
  19.  
  20.  executor: Fatal error.
  21.  encountered unknown, unimplemented trap `ABC9'.
  22.  
  23. And gives me the "restart" button.  When I hit the restart button, it 
  24. puts me back to the browser (as it should).
  25.  
  26. So I finally just said "screw it" and let the expander unstuff the demo 
  27. to the default location (which turned out to be exactly where I wanted 
  28. it), and tried to run the demo.  When I do so, I get:

  30.   Please be sure the files "Map", "Shapes", and "Sounds" are in the 
  31.   same folder as the "Marathon" application and try again.  ID = -35
  32.  
  33. Of course, I wouldn't be posting this error if it wasn't an error; all of 
  34. the requested files are there.  I made sure that the FILES setting in my 
  35. CONFIG.SYS was set sufficiently high; it's currently set to 80.  I'm also 
  36. running with an applzone of 8M.

  38. Has anyone else had any success with getting this demo to run?

  40. P.S.  The low-memory warning in executor which suggests that you use a 
  41. larger -applzone setting for a program doesn't reflect the new -applzone 
  42. syntax.  For example, executor suggested that I try an -applzone of 8000 
  43. when running the M2 demo above, because the demo requested a lot of 
  44. memory.  Yet with the new syntax, it would be 8M rather than 8000.  Just 
  45. a little nit-pick there.

  47. P.P.S.  When running in 50-line-mode under DOS (using "mode ,50") the 
  48. text mode isn't correctly restored when exiting E/D.  Instead it's 50 
  49. lines of the upper-half of the 25-line font.  Another nit-pick.
