  15.     I am a new experimenter with Executor and I am very impressed
  16. with what I have seen so far.  My main interest in Executor is to
  17. run Macdraw II on a DOS box, 'cause I can't afford to buy a separate
  18. computer just to run one program and I really like Macdraw a lot.
  19. I don't think anything else comes close!

  21.     I have tried Executor/DOS on two systems and the problems I describe
  22. below are present on both systems.  Here are the system descriptions:

  24. System 1.       CPU     80486-40 DX (AMD)
  25.         RAM     16 MEGs
  26.      Video Card     S3-805 by Xing
  27.             Executor Info says Vesa 1.2 compliant
  28.       2 Hard Drives     540 M and 850 M, divided into 4 Logical DOS
  29.             Drives and 2 Linux drives.
  30.         DOS     6.2
  31.  
  32. System 2.       CPU     80486-33 DX
  33.         RAM     4 MEGs
  34.        Video Driver     Unknown; E -info says Vesa 1.2 compliant
  35.        1 Hard Drive     340 M   in 1 Logical Drive

  38.     So far I have had the following problems:

  40. EXECUTOR EMULATOR Desktop:
  41.  
  42. 1.  When I use the floppy, the name of its volume will not change
  43.     when I change floppies.  The sequence of events is as follows:
  44.     - Insert floppy 1
  45.     - Use CHECK FOR DISK
  46.     - New drive appears in the hot band.
  47.     - Move some files to the hard drive.
  48.     - Remove the floppy.
  49.     - Delete the drive name from the hot band.
  50.     - Insert floppy 2
  51.     - Do a:  FILE - CHECK FOR DISK
  52.     - The name for Floppy 1 appears in the hot band, not the new
  53.       name for floppy 2.
  54.     - Open the drive by double clicking in the hot band.
  55.     - Contents of floppy 2 appear, but with the floppy 1 name in
  56.       the border.
  57.     - Only way to fix name is to restart Executor.
  58.  
  59.     Is this a know bug or am I doing something wrong?  It's really not
  60. a big deal as it really doesn't seem to harm anything... it's just a
  61. little confusing as your are loading software to see the name of the
  62. previous floppy to appear again.

  65. MACDRAW II, Release 1.1

  67. 2.  SAVE does not work under the FILE pull down menu. SAVE AS works
  68. OK and as exepcted.  If you do try to do a simple SAVE which replaces
  69. or overwrites the original file, the following comes onto the screen:

  71.     HALT    Sorry, a disk error has occured.
  72.  
  73.         ERROR ID = -127

  79. This event apparently corrupts the file as Macdraw can never read
  80. that file again.  If you try to open that file then you get:

  82.     Sorry, a disk error has occurred.

  90. This problem is a pain, but the obvious work-around is to use
  91. SAVE AS and never the (overwriting) SAVE command.

  93. Incidently, an ordinary (overwriting) SAVE works ok in Word 5.1 under
  94. Executor, so the problem seems somewhat specific to Macdraw.

  97. 3.  Text cannot be corrected within Macdraw II.  I seem to be able to
  98. create text OK, but I can't correct it without really messing up
  99. executor.  This problem is really serious since corrections cannot be
  100. made without deleting the entire text object and starting again!
  101. Sequence of events is a follows:
  102.  
  103.     - Click on the Macdraw Texttool < A >
  104.     - Click where you want to place text in the document.
  105.     - Begin Typing the text you want.
  106.     - Try to correct text with the back space key or by
  107.       highlighting the text error with the cursor and then
  108.       using the pulldown menu CUT to delete it... results
  109.       first in strange results in the text object... like the
  110.       wrong letters being deleted then evenutally a Fatal like:

  112.     Executor:  Fatal Error
  113.  
  114.     Main.C: 979; in 'unhandled_trap'
  115.  
  116.     Fatal error:  unhandled trap 4 at pc 0x0  (Illegal instruction)

  121. It is possible to use the backspace key to delete objects within
  122. Macdraw even a complete text object without any trouble.  The
  123. problem only arises when you try to modify a text object either
  124. as you are first typing it or if you select it later and try to
  125. fix it then.

  128. Has anyone on this mailing list had any experience with Macdraw and
  129. know any fixes.  Are these problems known to the ARDI and if
  130. so, what are the prospects for their repair?
  131.  
  132. How can I get a listing of all know bugs running Macdraw II under
  133. executor?...  I've tried the automatic tracking system with negative
  134. results.
