To: executor@nacm.com Date: Tue, 31 Oct 95 11:22:17 MEZ X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.3 PL8] Sender: owner-paper@nacm.com Precedence: bulk Hi folks... Yesterday i thought i'd take a look at the DOS version of Executor, upto now i only used it with Linux. First of all, after installing the new uvbe51a which enables linear frame buffer and the vbe 2.0 extensions the graphics were around 50-80% faster even than the E/L svaglib version (which as far is i know also uses a linear frame buffer). My machines is equipped with an Adaptec 1542C and has 5 SCSI devices attached to it, one of them a ZIP-drive, which in the first term already works cool. I didn't try to change media yet, but access was working. But now the real cool part: I use on my ZIP drives a sort of Stacker or DoubleSpace replacement called jam. This a shareware program which also does on the fly file compression and decompression and looks like an additional drive. It is even faster than DoubleSpace (to what i experienced), and it really compresses close to 2:1, so it's like Executor just the way go. Well, when i started Executor i first didn't notice, but Executor showed me that compressed drive, too!!! And i was even able to work with it!!!!! I was really impressed as you can tell. So i now can even use my hfv files on a compressed file system. Keep on like that guys, i definitly will buy the update after 2.0 is out (as they won't take any donations... grmbl... ;)))) Read ya, Phil (A very pleased registered Executor user)
