  17. vorlon.mit.edu now has 1.99o8 for Linux and DOS.  We're building
  18. 1.99o8 for NEXTSTEP/Intel right now.  There are four linux variants
  19. now, an X-Windows a.out version, an X-Windows ELF version, an SVGAlib
  20. a.out version and an SVGAlib ELF version.  We've broken the
  21. BleedingEdge directory into subdirectories so this plethora won't
  22. confuse anyone other than fellow Linux users.

  24. I strongly suggest you use vorlon.mit.edu:/pub/ardi rather than
  25. ftp.ardi.com, since vorlon is a much faster connect.

  27. Although there are a few bug fixes in 1.99o8, the biggest advancement
  28. is that in some environments Executor can now directly map in the
  29. framebuffer so that programs that write directly to the screen can
  30. work without the overhead of refresh.  If you run Executor/DOS under
  31. DOS (you can't do this under Windows or OS/2) and have a VESA 2
  32. driver, you will probably get this benefit.  If you run the SVGAlib
  33. version of Executor under Linux and have a Mach32 or Cirrus based card
  34. you may get this benefit.  If you have this capability, then games
  35. like Solarian, Apeiron and Maelstrom all play very nicely.

  37. The NEXTSTEP/Intel port still has the same limitations it had in
  38. 1.99o6, but at least we're now able to update it everytime we update
  39. the other versions.  We hope to fix printing soon and provide some way
  40. of setting the virtual Mac screen size.  After that come both Motorola
  41. support and support for faster screen access.
