- The real thing is always better than an emulator. Used SE/30's can be
- bought for $300.

- Apparently everyone missed my point. By keeping the current prize
- structure, even after going beta or production, you will have many more
- legal customers than you would by going to 2 or 3 times that and eliminating
- educational discount. My reason for bringing Linux into this is that
- if it weren't for Linux and the FreeBSD groups, many of us very limited
- financial resources would never be able to afford an SCO or ISC Unix
- License. NOWHERE did I state that I think Executor should be totally
- free. Agreed it is a fine product and ARDI deserves compensation for it,
- but please be REASONABLE about what you end up charging for it!!!
-
- This might well be a mute point, since plans for ed. discount haven't
- been disclosed. If you do end up keeping ed. discount at or around $50
- for the Linux/svgalib 2.00 or post 2.00, I for one, will one of the
- first to order. Also, if ed. discount is still a possibility for your
- future prize rates, PLEASE consider offering ed. discount on direct
- purchases and don't insist on having to purchase through college
- bookstores, which quite often have a huge markup of their own.
-
- My original comments were NOT meant as flame bait, although they
- certainly turned out as such. I know I am just a voice among many, but I
- feel like some feedback on the future prize rates can help Cliff and
- ARDI to figure out the optimum balance between charging too much and
- turning potential legal customers away and keeping the per license
- profits high, and charging less, gaining more legal customers, more
- total profits, although at the cost of per license profits. Well, I saw
- at least one other response from someone with much deeper pockets who
- wouldn't mind spending $100, so there you have at least 2 voices from
- the masses.
