  27. This is a symptom of problems with the system file.  What's happening
  28. is that there is font selection code that knows that if all else
  29. fails, the system font is always present and can be used.  However, if
  30. the System file is in a bad state, this is no longer true.  We
  31. *should* have a test for this very early in Executor's startup so that
  32. a polite message can be printed, and we *will* have such a thing
  33. before 2.0 ships (better error messages are the next large set of mods
  34. that we'll be introducing to Executor).

  36. However, if this is from a virgin installation, I'm not really sure
  37. what could be going wrong.  The system file should be installed
  38. automatically.  1.99n had a bug that caused the system file to get
  39. messed up if you ran Desktop Textures, changed the background and then
  40. did anything that caused a crash.  However, that has been fixed in
  41. 1.99o.  If you're not running 1.99o, try that.

  43. You don't mention where you get Executor from, but the "canonical"
  44. location is ftp.ardi.com:/pub/Executor_DOS.
