But we also have PKZIP 2.04g-compatible utilities from the nice InfoZIP folks that are freeware (and support EAs!). :-) The advantage PKZIP's format has is a high level of recognition. If a DOS user downloads a ZIP file, chance are extremely high that he/she will understand what needs to be done to extract the contents. GZIP is *not* well-know in the DOS world.
