Back when I was trying AOL files, all of them gave some sort of error right at the beginning and some wouldn't work at all (most of the time ignoring the error would make it work anyway, but sometimes even this didn't work). This is also why the IBM version of Stuffit won't work on Mac stuffit programs gathered off of AOL (from what I've heard, anyway). > > Jesse> Have you tried using > Jesse> CHOPHEAD (if I remember the filename properly) to do this? > Jesse> Its a file in the AOL libraries that chops of the custom > Jesse> AOL header so that you can use MAC .sit archives with the > Jesse> IBM version of Stuffit Expander. > > We didn't use chophead on the file that was really a stuffit archive > and the other file we tested wasn't a stuffit archive at all, so > chophead wouldn't have helped in the least. Er, actually, CHOPHEAD may be more useful for other files. I'm not entirely sure, but this may keep the files from having an error at the beginning. I know that I was NEVER able to get any .sea files from AOL to work (though, I never got around to trying chophead). I guess I'll do a little checking tonight and get back with you, ok? > > Jesse> It may also be a good > Jesse> idea to search the IBM libraries for Stuffit information, > Jesse> because if I remember correctly there was a discussion > Jesse> about this a while back because the IBM version of Stuffit > Jesse> also had problems with AOL files (it won't even recognize > Jesse> them as .SIT archives). > > Maybe. I just wonder why them AOL people chose to use a non-standard method for this in the first place (probably to make things "simpler" for their users). ||||| Jesse D. Sightler |||||
