- Don't be afraid. Executor runs just fine under Windows95, and
- runs the same under the Win95 version of DOS (you can boot to a command
- line; the ver command gives "Windows 95 [4.00.474]" or some such thing)
- and under the "previous version of DOS" which Win95 also supports. It
- runs fine from the graphical part too, though one must tell it how much
- memory to use. And the filesystem is essentially the same as FAT, but
- adds on some other information; there are new versions of Norton, etc.,
- coming out to run under Win95. The reason one can't use old utilities is
- because either (1) they need to directly address the disk in a way Win95
- won't allow (meaning that they probably wouldn't run under Win3.1 either)
- or (2) that even if given direct access (outside of the GUI) they would
- mangle or choke on the 255-character filenames. Since you can boot from
- DOS 6 on a Win95 partition (and then run Win3.1), there's no need to have
- a separate partition the way OS/2 requires. I haven't tried giving
- Executor direct disk access--that might not work--but otherwise,
- everything works.
