  9. Good news. I (finally) found a Resource Editor that works with Executor 1.99m.
  10. As you will recall there have been extensive reports by a.o. myself that
  11. Apple's ResEdit does
  12. not work (seems to work but it crashes whenever you try to do something
  13. useful - come to think
  14. of it that that is more or less the definition of a computer anyway!).

  16. The one that does work is a very, very, very old version, namely the
  17. precursor to ResEdit, called
  18. REdit. Its release date is January, 7th 1986 so it is a bit obsolete to say
  19. the least.

  21. This was the first publicly available resource editor from Apple (and
  22. probably still is copyrighted
  23. by Apple). The version (1.2) I tested comes from CompuServe, but it might be
  24. available on the net also.

  26. The program (REDIT.APP) probably is much more limited than ResEdit 2.1.3 but
  27. it is a start.
  28. There also is an excellent (MacWrite) manual in the file REDIT.WRT

  30. I tried editing an icon and that worked fine (in b/w though; in 1986 there
  31. were no color Macs).

  33. I fully agree with Clifford's remarks about not uploading software to this
  34. mailing list so you will not find
  35. it here, but if someone emails me directly I can send the two files to you.
  36. Please bear in mind that this
  37. probably still is Apple copyrighted software which implies that you probably
  38. can only use this software
  39. legally when you own a Mac (thus having paid for the operating system). I
  40. own a PB165 so I am fine =:-)
