I tried to send a message a week or two ago and it seemed to bounce all
over the place. I'm trying again. If you've already seen this, I
apologize.
----------- Previous message -------------
I have been testing executor since 199c. Using 199c, I was able to get
Microsoft Word 5.1 to work, but since then I haven't been able to get
anything to work. Word simply crashes the system with an "unhandled
trap". I've tried to use ClarisWorks but the screen is drawn all wrong
and the menus don't work right (they try to scroll as if the menu
wouldn't fit on the screen, and then menu items are duplicated). Whenever
a dialog box has come up, the window is redrawn all wrong (it tries to
draw a much smaller window). When I tried to use FileMaker Pro it said
that all of the files were corrupt, even if I tried to create a new one,
so I can't get beyond the first dialog box.
I've tried executor on DOS and Linux (1.0.8) with a 486-50 with 16Megs.
I've tried adding memory with applzone, I've tried reducing bit depth
(ClarisWorks just crashes if I try -bpp 1), I've tried refresh and
noclock. Am I doing something wrong, or am I expecting too much out of
the experimental version.
I really hope to be able to use executor succesfully. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Glenn Bach
(glenn@cco.caltech.edu)
(p.s. I am currently using version 199h)

That will wait until after 2.0, but it's on our list.

Hi;
I have X11 up and running and when I attempt to fire up a MAC emulaor
windows by performing the command executor under the /usr/local/bin
directory, it starts loading, the screen turns yellow and then I get a
segmentation fault. Am I doing something wrong??
Thanks in advance.

It's not your fault; 1.99c had a bug causing it to die with recent
kernels. If you have ftp access, please pick up the 1.99k demo from
sunsite.unc.edu. It's much better.

They just brought the net back up, a day ahead of schedule! Hurray!
Apparently a pipe burst in a machine room somewhere, and took down the
net connection for a bunch of sites in this area.

what version of executor/linux are you using? if you are using
anything besides 1.99k, you probably want to upgrade to the latest
version (which can be ftp'ed from `ftp.unm.edu:/pub/ardi').
if that doesn't help, what version of linux are you using? executor
tickled bugs in some older versions of linux.

Run, don't walk, to ftp.cs.unm.edu:/pub/ardi/Executor_Linux and
get 1.99k, a much better release which will leave your screen colors
intact and work with your post 1.1.6x kernel. (Okay, you can keep your
screen yellow if you want using -privatecmap... it's faster. :)

Any chance of making this automated? (e.g. changing the code to scan
for the SCSI, IDE, and Mitsumi cd's along with the floppies in 1.99l?)
That would make things easier and more consistent with the DOS version.

It's not up yet. The only reason it isn't up yet is because Cliff is
at CeBit and I've been working on some high priority stuff for 1.99l
that involves getting help from people outside ARDI.
Hopefully ftp.ardi.com will be up by Monday. Initially everything on
it will also be available on ftp.cs.unm.edu, so you aren't missing
much. Its absence does make ARDI's software harder to find for
net.surfers, though...
