  1. Hi Folks,
  2.  
  3. There were several rather large bugs in 1.99j.  We fixed a couple of
  4. the obvious ones and internally cooked up and tested a 1.99k.  We
  5. found a couple more bugs and have fixed those and are now getting
  6. ready for another day of testing.  If we find no more showstoppers,
  7. 1.99k will be released sometime after 5pm Mountain Time Wednesday,
  8. March 1.  If we don't release 1.99j then, then I'll send another note
  9. explainging what's going on.

  11. Here are the bugs that were in 1.99j that were fixed in 1.99k
  12.  
  13.     On some systems Executor used to hang soon after the splash
  14.     screen was dismissed
  15.  
  16.     Various cursor movements could kill Executor
  17.  
  18.     Lemmings under Windows drew trash on the screen
  19.  
  20.     The DOS filesystem wasn't seen by Executor
  21.  
  22.     The license panel had a number of quirks (it still has some,
  23.         but it has fewer)
  24.  
  25.     a few esoteric fixes: ("Seahaven Towers had messed up colors,
  26.         among others)
  27.  
  28. One major difference that will remain in 1.99k is that CTRL-BREAK no
  29. longer kills Executor.  This is due to an intermediate form of the
  30. current DOS extender that we're using.  CTRL-BREAK should work again
  31. in a future version.  Another drawback is that ALL of Executor is read
  32. into memory before Executor starts.  Previously only enough of
  33. Executor to get started was read in, and the rest was "demand paged"
  34. (i.e. read from the disk into memory only as needed).  That makes the
  35. startup time for Executor longer.  Future versions will still do this,
  36. but they'll do it more efficiently, so the startup time will be
  37. quicker.  In addition, we'll be making Executor much more robust when
  38. running one program after another (As many of you know, there are some
  39. sequences of programs that you just can't run without exitting
  40. Executor first if you want proper results.).

  42. I'm also a bit behind in getting electronic keys sent out.  We really
  43. thought 1.99j was a good release.  Silly us.

  46. hours have been a bit of a blur.

  70. anyways, but it may be of interest to others unless i am completely blind.

  72. is there any way to access dos .HFV files from Linux Executor?  i've tried to
  73. find an answer and have come up empty handed.

  108. Is there a list of which Linux kernels work with Executor for Linux?  I
  109. recently upgraded to Linux kernel 1.1.64, and my executor demo binaries
  110. no longer work.  I'm following the progress being made by each
  111. successive release to see if there is one version that does what I
  112. need.  I'm willing to upgrade my kernel to a newer version to make this
  113. work.

  149. That is odd.. I have used Executor/Linux on many kernels since 1.1.59... 
  150. I have never had a kernel upgrade break Executor...
  151.  
  152. I am currently using 1.1.94 with Executor 1.99j.  No problems to report...
