In October, when I had an AOL account, I was using a 2400
baud modem. I did download Extr12a.Zip. It took about 1 hour to download it.
When I was downloading it, I dropped carrier about 4 times. As a result, the
archive was corrupt. When I tried executing Executor, there was an error
message stating that the Exsystem.Hfv was corrupt. Executor did give me a
path of the courrpted file in the \System subdirectory.
Then, I setup the program to download all three Executor archives
and setup the program to dial automatically. (In the Windows version, all you
have to do is type in your User ID and password. The password is not
displayed on the screen. The .Ini files that contain the password line is
encrypted.) I then made a duplicate copy of the AOL software and delted
unneccessary files. I then asked a trustable friend and gave him a copy of
the software. Later that night, he called AOL and dnownloaded the archives,
using his 14.4 baud modem. (He did logoff immediately and deleted the AOL
software. I did check billing to make sure that he did this.) it took at
least 1 hour to download the software, since the maximum baud rate on AOL was
9600 baud. I downloaded the software and had him try Executor. He too
received that error message stating the error was in the \System subdirectory.
(All three archives had 100% CRCs.) Though it did work on my PC. (I have a
Packard Bell 386SX/ 16 Mhz PC, 4 Megs, and MS-DOS 6.2. I'm also using an IIT
80387 SX 33 Mhz math co-processor.) I had another friend try Executor on his
Compag 486DX2 66 Mhz PC. I didn't work. Why doesn't Executor work on all
BIOSs? It does not work with Cyrix 486SLCs, 486DLCs and other Cyrix
processors. Do you have a list that shows the BIOSs that are not compatible
with Executor and do you have a list of program that are compatible, on
platforms? I also tried using Executor for DOS, ver. 1.2.1 on a Packard Bell
486SX. When I tried to use the showsize program, Executor crashed. I believe
it was an overflow error. I have concluded that the ShowSize program,
requires a math co-processor or FPU unit.
Executor is pretty slow on a 386SX 16 PC. (The program runs
normally. However, when trying to extract or compress a .Sit file, it takes
forever.)
I have tried to use Bill's suggestion. (He suggested to create a
sample Compact Pro 1.5 archive and renaming %Sample.Cpt to %Cpt.header. I
tried to access .Cpt files over the holidays. Compact Pro did access the
archive, but didn't decompress the archive. I received an error esssage
stating that the TEMP stack was corrupted or was overflowed.
I also tried to create a folder on a Mac formatted disk, using the
HFS Xfer program. When I tried to copy a .Sit file to that folder, the FAT
on the disk became corrupted. I also tried to access the disk using both
Macindos and Macette. Again, the disk contents were corrupted and were not
listed. Can you please to correct the HFS Xfer program?
Does Executor read MFM disks? The MFM FAT is the predeccessof
riliing System to the HFV FAT. Why can't Executor read Maintosh 800K disks?
Thank you for your time. I appreciate it.
Sincerely,
Joseph Pena

Well ... I bought a copy of executor back in February last year, but
I could use it only a few months, sice I moved to a Gecko running
NextStep this summer (nice machine, but a lot of recompile).
Now, I wonder if I can use my old licence to make Executor run at least
on my portable 486 (under NextStep, of course :-)), or under DOS
otherwise...
Let me just say that I have always been amazed at Executor, and I cant wait
to see a Fat versin for NextStep out. I understand that the NextStep
version is less interesting commercially speaking than the dos/linux ones,
but I hope that we will not be forgot, only delayed a little :-)
