Hi Folks,
I'm back from a week vacation. I had about 300 e-mail messages to
read and about 60 of them require a response. I'll be getting to my
e-mail in the next couple of days.
While I was gone Mat found and fixed the problem that was preventing
Executor/Linux from working with recent Linux kernels. I spent a
bunch of time working with the BCS PD-CD Vol. 13 Color and Graphics
programs. As such, 1.99d will soon be out and it already has the
linux fix I've mentioned and a couple of "penetrating" (i.e. applies
to more than one application) color bug fixes.
Beyond that, it's not clear what else 1.99d will have. We don't want
to delay it much because people with recent Linux kernels just can't
run Executor.
As you may have noticed, with 1.99c, we began linking against XFree86
3.1 libraries, which means you need to run XFree86 3.1 (or use the
workaround described by someone else on this list). While we're
still making the Linux version usable, we plan to release only
versions linked against 3.1. After we have something a little more
stable we may also release a version linked against 2.1, but my
understanding is many major apps will be requiring 3.1 anyway.
I'm taking one more week off between Christmas and New Year's Day and
then I'll be back into my largely 7-days a week schedule.
After I get caught up with my e-mail and also get 1.99d out the door,
I'll post the beginning of Appendix A, and also a revised list of
what we have left to do before 2.0 ships. Mat posted a list of what
features we still need to work on; the new list of what needs to be
done in 2.0 will also mention the bugs that have to get fixed before
