Cc: vmin@darkstar.urba.ulg.ac.be Sender: owner-executor@nacm.com Precedence: bulk Hi, I've just begun testing Executor 1.99c for NEXTSTEP on NeXT hardware (NeXTstation Color, NS 3.2) and I immediately ran into problems that made me feel like sticking to 1.3. Color menu bars are cute, but : - Display performance is rather slow, and playing with the refresh preferences didn't seem to help much. 8 bits colors appears to be the only option here (1 or 4 in the shell command line cause a scrambled "Mac login" screen, then a crash). Should I install "recent Interceptor libraries" in order to make Executor's display more responsive ? (I never installed NeXTTime on this machine.) - This version breaks parts of the previously excellent Word and Excel support. Clicking in an Excel 4.0 cell didn't highlight it. Getting "About MS Word" info caused Word 5.0 to freeze. I didn't go further. On the other hand, apps that had always been reluctant to even launch under older Executors appear to be given a chance with brand new color support. Especially WriteNow 3.0. Although the mouse is disappearing in its window, it seems quite close to full compatibility. It would be great to be able to use that marvellous word processor under Executor, and I'd be willing to cooperate with ARDI by providing a more detailed report of my experience with it (if they're interested). I'd like to hear from other NEXTSTEPpers (NeXT or Intel-based). We may not be ARDI's main focus right now, but hey, this might change when more people realize we were right, right from the start. Cheers, Vincent vmin@urba.ulg.ac.be
