I have seen a number of reports of Executor for Linux "running". Please:
could you also say *what* runs? Just Executor? Or a program that's not
included in the .tar.gz file? The demos should run, of course. But does
anything else?
My own experience is rather bleak. Wwhat I wanted most was HyperCard.
Well, it shows a card or two. After that, it crashes with a
Segmentation fault. ResEdit does that immediately. MPW loads a startup
screen; after that, it just dies.
A most annoying side effect is that, after running Executor, I no longer
have keyboard autorepeat.
As to successes, TeachText and PocketForth seem to run just fine. Another
editor, Edit II, also runs, albeit extremely slowly. In all cases,
however, the keyboard layout is very strange, and I don't know how to
change it.
I've been using kernels 1.1.61 and 1.1.35 - it didn't make any difference.
XFree86 is version 2.1. I tried the DOS version, too, but that version
didn't allow me to put almost anything on the disk.
To sum it up, I feel the Linux demo has been announced a bit too soon.
