  2. AWebPC - the AWeb Preference Conversion utility

  5. Why?
  6. ----
  7. This version of AWeb has an improved configuration mechanism.
  8. Instead of a single file "AWeb.prefs" in the program directory,
  9. it now uses a set of files in the ENV:AWeb directory. This
  10. allows the use of a separate configuration program (AWebCfg),
  11. with full Save/Use/Test capabilities.

  13. This means that AWeb doesn't recognize the old "AWeb.prefs" file
  14. any more. You should use the AWebPC program to convert the old
  15. settings to the new format.

  17. How?
  18. ----
  19. Just run the program AWebPC. It asks for the old settings file
  20. (default: "AWeb.prefs"). It also asks for a configuration name.
  21. Leave it blank for your normal, default configuration.
  22. Then click on "Convert". The old settings file is converted to
  23. a set of files in ENVARC:AWeb and ENV:AWeb.

  25. Note: if the installation script found an "AWeb.prefs" file in
  26. the directory you installed AWeb in, this file is already
  27. converted automatically by the installation script.
  28. The installation will tell you so.

  30. If you used different settings files (by means of the CONFIG
  31. tooltype or argument) there changes a little bit more for you.
  32. You can use the AWebPC program to convert your alternate settings
  33. files, but you'll have to specify a name for them. This name
  34. will be used to create a subdirectory in ENVARC:AWeb where the
  35. alternate settings are stored.
  36. If you want to use AWeb with the alternate settings, you'll
  37. have to specify this name in the CONFIG tooltype or argument.

  41. Most of your settings are copied to their new location. If you
  42. start the new AWeb, you shouldn't notice any difference except
  43. maybe the fonts that AWeb uses. That is because the way in which
  44. the fonts are configured has changed entirely.

  46. AWebPC does its best to convert your old settings to a meaningful
  47. and consistent set of new "fonts" and "styles" settings.
  48. However, if you used many different fonts for <CODE>, <CITE>, etc,
  49. it is likely that you will lose some of this information in the
  50. conversion. If you don't like the settings AWebPC has created,
  51. you'll have to change them manually afterwards.
