  2.                             DEEP FORTRESS (TM)
  3. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  5.      You are an elite helicopter pilot chosen by the high command officials
  6. to infiltrate an underground fortress, rescue all of captured high command
  7. officers, and exterminate the evil terrorist.  The fortress contains seven
  8. tightly guarded bunkers.  Each bunker contains shield generators for the
  9. next bunker.  You'll have to destroy all shield generators in each of the
  10. bunker and survive the self-destruct explosion.  Each bunker is guarded by
  11. enemy aircrafts, vehicles, weapons, and mind-boggling security systems.
  12.  
  13.      To win the game, you must rescue the captured high command officials,
  14. destroy all seven bunkers, and kill the evil terrorist.

  18.                             SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  21. DEEP FORTRESS (TM) requires:
  22.   - an IBM compatible 386 or better
  23.   - a VGA 256-color graphics
  24.   - 4 megs of RAM
  25.   - a hard drive
  26.  
  27. * An IBM compatible 486 or better, a Sound Blaster (TM) or compatible sound
  28.   card is recommended.

  31.                                 INSTALLATION

  34. 1. At the DOS prompt, type C: and press [ENTER] to change to hard drive C.
  35.    Make a new directory C:\DEEPFORT.
  36.    (you may need to substitute letter drive "C" with the appropriate hard
  37.     drive letter)

  44. 2. Copy the file DPFORT.EXE into directory C:\DEEPFORT then run this program
  45.    to inflate the game files.

  50. 3. Run the DEEP FORTRESS setup program.

  81.                              MAKING A BOOT DISK

  84. 1. Run the DEEP FORTRESS setup program.
  85.  
  86.    SETUP                [ENTER]
  87.  
  88. 2. Select "Make Boot Disk & Quit" option from the menu.
  89.  
  90. 3. Exit the SETUP program.
  91.  
  92. 4. You may need to add lines manually for your sound card.  These lines
  93.    should be in your old CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files. View these file
  94.    with any word editor or DOS "EDIT" program. Copy all lines which refer to
  95.    your sound card to the appropriate CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files on
  96.    your boot disk.

  98.    EDIT A:\CONFIG.SYS   [ENTER]
  99.    EDIT A:\AUTOEXEC.BAT [ENTER]

  101. 5. Reboot your computer with the boot disk in the boot-up floppy drive. You
  102.    can now play DEEP FORTRESS. Please refer to the INSTALLATION section step 4
  103.    on how to launch DEEP FORTRESS.

  106.                   RUNNING DEEP FORTRESS UNDER WINDOWS 95

  109. *** NOTE: DEEP FORTRESS may be too SLOW when running under Windows 95
  110.           on your computer.

  112. A. RUNNING DEEP FORTRESS FROM WINDOWS EXPLORER
  113.  
  114.   - Locate the file DEEPFORT.EXE using Windows Explorer and double-click it.
  115.     Though this may work but the best way is to make a Deep Fortress icon
  116.     using step B.
  117.  
  118. B. MAKING DEEP FORTRESS SHORTCUT
  119.  
  120.   1. To make a DEEP FORTRESS shortcut, just right-click in a directory folder
  121.      or desktop then click on NEW shortcut.
  122.  
  123.   2. Click on the BROWSE button then locate and select the file DEEPFORT.EXE.
  124.      Double-click on the DEEP FORTRESS shortcut icon on your desktop to play.
  125.  
  126. C. TWEAKING THE ICON PROPERTY
  127.    (you may skip this step if you are running with a PENTIUM or above)
  128.  
  129.   1. Right-click on the DEEP FORTRESS shortcut and choose Properties. Now
  130.      click on the Program tab and check the "Close on exit" box.
  131.  
  132.   2. Go to the Screen tab and check on "Full-screen" under Usage.
  133.  
  134.   3. Finally, go to the Misc. tab and slide the Idle sensitive bar to Low.
  135.      Click OK.
  136.  
  137. D. MAKING DEEP FORTRESS SHORTCUT TO RUN IN MS-DOS MODE
  138.    (use this step if you are having trouble running this game using the
  139.     previous steps or it is running too slow)
  140.  
  141.   1. Use step B to make a DEEP FORTRESS shortcut.
  142.  
  143.   2. Now right-click on the DEEP FORTRESS shortcut and choose Properties. 
  144.      Go to the Program tab and click on the Advanced button.
  145.  
  146.   3. Check both the "MS-DOS mode" and "Specify a new MS-DOS configuration"
  147.      boxes. The CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT should already have a few entries.
  148.  
  149.   4. Click on the Configuration button and select only those entries that you
  150.      think are appropriate since the more you select the less conventional
  151.      memory will be available. Leave the EMS box checked. Unchecked the mouse
  152.      box since you don't need a mouse for this game and etc. Click OK when done.
  153.  
  154.   5. You may need to add lines manually for your sound card.  These lines
  155.      should be in your old CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files or in files
  156.      CONFIG.DOS and AUTOEXEC.DOS.  View these file with any word editor or
  157.      NOTEPAD.EXE. Copy all lines which refer to your sound card to the 
  158.      appropriate CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT within the DEEP FORTRESS shortcut.

  160.   6. Click OK. You may now double-click on the shortcut to launch
  161.      DEEP FORTRESS.
