- Advanced Features:
-
- While the default setup is the way I run this program on my
- system, there are a few advanced features which should make
- this program useful to anyone.
-
-
- Fidonet:
-
- If you are participating in Fidonet, but do not have true
- Internet EMail capabilities, PCB Post Office makes it extremely
- easy for you and your users to communicate with the Internet
- via the UUCP Gateway.
-
- For instance, my Fidonet address is:
- Richard Ploski@1:2625/120
-
- My Fidonet/Internet address using the UUCP gateway is:
- richard.ploski@f120.n2625.z1.fidonet.org
-
- All Fidonet systems have the capacity to receive EMail via
- the gateway.
-
- Outbound Fidonet -> Internet EMail must also be routed through
- the gateway. Since my BBS is in New York, I have included the
- address of the UUCP Gateway closest to me, scan the NODELIST
- for UUCP to find a site near you.
-
- Fidonet -> Internet EMail should be routed through your existing
- Netmail routing scheme. However the addressing is a bit different.
-
- The message MUST be addressed to UUCP@<the_gateway_address>
- With the example include here, that becomes: UUCP@1:1/31
- The first line of the message MUST read:
-
- To: <the.persons.internet.address@where.ever>
-
- The To: MUST be in the upper left hand corner, and a line MUST
- be skipped.
-
- But guess what?!? If you ENABLE LINE 11 in the CFG file, and
- choose to let PCB Post Office route the mail for you, this
- will be done AUTOMATICALLY each time you or one of your users
- writes a message to someone on the Internet.
-
- The same process can be used to communicate with anyone on
- any of the Major Online Services.
-
- PCB Post Office automates the addressing of EMail to these services,
- including:
-
- Prodigy, Compuserve, America Online, Genie, Delphi, AT&T and MCI!
-
- To disable EMail to these services, enter N on line 17
- If you have chosen to route Internet EMail through the Fidonet
- Gateway, PCB Post Office will route this mail accordingly.
-
- LINE 18 of the CFG file allows you to set the minimum security
- level necessary to use Fidonet Netmail.
-
- Another nifty feature is the Routing Bypass Security Level.
- This feature is set using LINE 20 of the CFG file.
-
- The Routing Bypass Security Level field was added at the
- request of Brian Sweeney, SysOp of The Laser BBS. Brian
- has both Fidonet Netmail, and Internet EMail, but has chosen
- to have his user's netmail routed via the Gateway by turning on
- the routing switch in LINE 10. However, Brian desired to route
- HIS Fidonet Netmail directly through Fidonet.
-
- By setting the Security Level in LINE 20 of the CFG file, you
- can determine which users will be forced to route via Internet.
- Anyone with the proper Security Level to Bypass Routing will be
- prompted to either send the mail [D]irect or via [I]nternet.
-
-
- Internet:
-
- If you haven't read the previous few paragraphs, please
- do so now. PCB Post Office has added built in support for
- Internet and Fidonet addressing to all the major online
- services. That means that ANYONE on ANY of these services can
- simply be added to your address book and PCB Post Office will
- route it correctly every time!
-
- To route mail to the Online Services via Internet, set LINE 17
- in the CFG file to Y, setting it to N will disable routing.
- If you have chosen to route Internet EMail through the Fidonet
- UUCP Gateway, PCB Postoffice will route the mail accordingly.
-
- For those systems participating in the Internet, but who are
- not part of Fidonet, LINE 10 of the CFG file should be set
- to Y.
-
- By doing this if you or your user enters a Fidonet Address ie.:
- Richard Ploski@1:2625/120
-
- PCB Post Office will convert this address and route it through
- the Internet to the Fidonet Gateway. For instance, the record
- in the above example would be routed to me at:
- richard.ploski@f120.n2625.z1.fidonet.org
-
- LINE 19 of the CFG file allows you to set a minimum security
- level for access to Internet EMail.
-
-
- Displaying User's Addresses:
-
- There are 3 options here in the CFG File...
-
- Display User's REAL Internet Address:
- richard.ploski@ploski.com
-
- Display User's REAL Fidonet Address:
- Richard Ploski@1:2625/120
-
- Display User's Address via the Fidonet <-> Internet Gateway:
- richard.ploski@f120.n2625.z1.fidonet.org
-
- Please select the options best suited for your system's needs.
-
-
- Conference Numbers:
-
- BE SURE TO SET THE PROPER CONFERENCE NUMBER IN POSTOFFC.CFG
- SO THAT PCB POST OFFICE KNOWS WHERE TO PUT THE MAIL!
-
-
- Advanced Conferencing:
-
- While I am a BIG PCBoard fan, I have encountered countless new
- user's who find PCB a bit obtuse. The messaging functions,
- while quite powerful, often go unused.
-
- For this reason we have included ADVANCED CONFERENCING in
- PCB Post Office. If you enable this feature, you and your
- users will be able to use our multi-level menu structuring
- to EASILY USE PCBoard's most advanced messaging features.
- Even the BBS beginners will be messaging like old pros!
-
- If you choose to disable this feature, the menu option
- will not be displayed, and the command will be disabled.
- However, we urge you to make it available to users that
- could benefit from it and leave the default setup intact.
-
-
- SysOp's Access:
-
- I really don't like having to log on the system and go through
- a bunch of steps to enter EMail and Netmail. I started this
- project because I wanted a way to login, write a message with
- a minimum number of keystrokes, and logout.
-
- I run my BBS under OS/2 and have 3 Icons set up for my
- Local Node (Node 0).... They are as follows:
-
- 1 - The Waiting For Calls Screen, so I can
- ALT-F to the Fidonet menu and send mail.
-
- 2 - Regular Local Login via /localon switch in .BAT file
-
- 3 - Quick Local Login DIRECTLY TO PCB POSTOFFICE.
- - This way when I want to write mail
- I choose this option and go directly
- to PCB Post Office, write my mail
- and then logoff
-
- - A sample batch file POSAMPLE.BAT is included
-
-
- Future:
-
- The address books and note files are being stored in your
- \POSTOFFC\DATA directory as ASCII files. This is being done
- to facilitate debugging in the early stages.
-
- After some feedback from you, and I am assured that everything
- is running properly we will be storing all records in database
- format.
-
- If there are any ideas you have for the program, or any features
- you need, please contact me.
-
-
- Stuff:
-
- This program is an evolution of an EMail system I wrote when
- I was running VBBS. With PCBoard's Programming Language, I
- was able to add several additional features. Quite a nice
- job by those guys over at CDC <g>.... Keep up the good work!
-
- If you have any ideas, requests, or problems, give a holler -
- I'll probably be here, ask my friends, I spend entirely TOO MUCH
- time at the keyboard!
-
- Well, I'm off to work on some new code, stay tuned for future
- enhancements and other useful PCB utilities which I have
- written for my system and am recoding to share with the world! <g>
