- INTRODUCTION
- ------------
-
- After the great human war on the planet Earth in the year 2072 A.D. that
- nearly wiped out many of that planet's inhabitants a great surge in
- learning and technology sweeped the planet. A surge of exploration was
- started and soon the human race spread through the solar system. Probe
- after probe scanned every planet in the solar system, then exploration
- ship after exploration ship, and finally colony ship after colony ship.
-
- In the year 2107 A.D. a two discoveries was found that would shock the humans
- that were quickly colonizing the wide expanse of the solar system. The first
- was the discovery of intelligent aquatic sea life on the Jovian moon of
- Europa. The moon was known to harbor many different sea creatures but until
- large stone structures were discovered, and a race first thought to be
- of simple animal squidlike intelligence tried to communicate with an
- exploration craft, the moon was thought to be devoid of intelligence.
- The Uygria look like a cross between a squid and a dolphin, that change
- color in varying ways to communicate. They have three eyes, and their
- tentacles are strong and can grasp and manipulate objects like humans.
- The creatures, called the Uygria, were once very advanced but due to a plague
- that afflicted the creatures, their numbers had shrunken down to a few
- thousand, and their civilzation crumbled. Most of the Uygria now live
- in isolated tribal communities with no real civilization.
-
- The second discovery was even more astonishing, a race of creatures, calling
- themselves the Naxraega, were found to live in huge underground cities. At
- first there was great conflict, and a war began between the human colonists
- and the Naxraega for control of Mars. The Naxraega, who were generally
- peaceful, fought viciously against the humans. The Naxraega are about 5
- feet tall, their bodies are barrel-like, they have two string thin arms, and
- large spheroid head with one large eye. They have several holes around
- their head to detect sounds. Thousands of both humans and Naxraega, who
- governed themselves in a simple democracy where they would vote for a single
- leader who would rule them all unconditionally for a period of 25 years.
- After 12 years of bitter conflict and huge loss of life and money, the two
- races came to a truce. The humans could trade and even set up trading
- areas on Mars, and mining could be set up on Mars but 30% had to be
- given to the Naxraega. But all ships had to be cleared by the Naxraega
- and they could deny any ship access to their planet. And for many years
- there was peace.
-
- In the hundreds of years that followed the Naxraega and the Humans developed
- close relations. The other planets were colonized, Venus, Mercury, the
- Moons of Jupiter and Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and a small colony on Pluto.
- In the 2638 A.D. the Naxraega deep in an economic depression allowed a
- human colony to exist on Mars, however, the colony must exist in the skies
- of Mars, not on the surface to separate the underground dwelling Naxraega.
- The colonists that thrived on Mars were a large group of trade oriented
- humans. They thrived on economic competition and the strength of the
- individual as a financial unit. Intervention between the
- citizens of the trading colony and the government was extremely limited.
- Taxes were almost non-existent and laws were lax. Conflicts were kept
- between individuals, broken laws were usually dealt with by personal
- vengeance. The government operated an official station and when conflicts
- or matters which effected the entire colony were needed to be decided
- they were made by a council of 10 elected trading merchants, which formed
- the Martian Guild. Each member served for 15 years, however, they could
- leave the Guild at any time. Being on the council meant numerous powers
- and many connections in the trading community. If a council member was
- not rich before he or she was on the guild, they soon were afterwards.
-
- Then, in the year 2753 A.D. the economically depressed Naxraega, who year
- after year of built up anger after seeing their human "visitors" go rich
- with trade based on their planet, revolt. The revolution started at the
- lowest levels of the inhabitants. It quickly moved to the higher ranks,
- unbeknownst to the human colonists, and revolution swarmed. Violent
- revolutionaries in a aggressive coup murdered their peaceful and passive
- leader, Leqwarx, destroyed the underground capital city and quickly moved
- to take power. The new revolutionaries moved to take power and they formed
- a group of three powerful leaders and instilled a communistic type government
- over the Naxraega citizens. All moneys would be shared by all, work would
- be done by all, everyone would be equal. Two factions arose amongst the
- citizens, the neutrals, and the isolationists. The neutrals, who were
- the slight minority, felt that Naxraega and the rest of the solar system
- could live in harmony. The majority faction of the isolationists felt that
- the solar system and the human race were an infection in the solar system
- and that the human race was a disease that must be removed from Mars.
-
- The isolationists began spending huge amounts of resources into research
- to destroy the human colonists, who were technologically superior
- to the Naxraega. The Naxraega designed a series of cyber-organisms half
- organic, half machine to rid their world of humans and their sky dwellings,
- which would mean little loss to Naxraega life. The factory was created
- above ground and the creatures were sent free, there were five basic
- types of cyber-organisms created to wreak havoc amongst the colonists.
-
- The first was the POD or SPORE this creature floats through the sky, when
- it gets close to any object such as a ship or dwelling it rams into it
- and explodes. They are usually slow and are the least dangerous.
-
- The second was the RAMBLER this creature resembles a jellyfish, with its
- many tentacles it attaches itself to a ship or dwelling and tries to pull
- it apart.
-
- The third was the DISMANTLES, this creature was more intelligent than the
- other two, its basic knowledge of mechanics allowed it to find a dwelling
- or ship and slowly dismantle its workings. Its find appendages allow for
- intricate tinkering.
-
- The fourth was the LEECH, or sky leech, it quickly moves through the skies
- looking for moving objects. It leeches itself to a ship and then drills
- into the vehicle destroying its insides.
-
- The final kind was known as the TERMINATOR, the final and most advanced
- type of creature, it searches both dwellings and ships and wreaks terrible
- damage.
-
- The government and the colonists were in chaos after the first wave of
- attacks began, confusion spread as well as fear. The government had no
- military not even a police force to destroy the Naxraega menace. So the
- citizens, those who were not rich enough to take their belongings and leave,
- took things into their own hands. However, desputes arose, who should
- kill the creatures, who protected whom, and why should one fight for another.
- The government in an effort to keep its population on Mars, and to end
- disputes as well as to encourage fighting the Naxraega proclaimed that
- those killing the Naxraega would recieve a specified number of credits
- depending on the creature they killed. Each ship would get a free counter
- that detect when a creature was killed, this would be scanned at the
- government station and credits would be distributed their. With the
- economy in a slump and the ever increasing production of the Naxraega
- cyber organisms the government, desparate to end the scurge, proclaimed that
- anyone destroying the factory would receive 100,000 credits as well as
- a seat on the Martian Guild.
-
- You had been sitting in your dwelling when you noticed a strange sound.
- An odd drilling noise followed by machinery being moved. Interested you
- explored your dwelling looking for the noise. To your horror you see
- that an odd creature trying to drill into the energy core, the damage
- appears to be permanent and you have but seconds before the creature
- reaches the core. You gather up the last of your credits and leave
- your dwelling, the energy core blowing up destroying your abode just as you
- leave. Seeking revenge, angered at the Naxraega, you spend your last
- credits on a ship with a laser and seek to destroy all Naxraega.
