  16. This program requires an IBM PC or compatible with at least VGA,
  17. with a mouse (or trakball) installed.  If you do not have a
  18. mouse or trakball then you must have a joystick to play.
  19.  
  20. In general, faster systems will run the program more efficiently.

  23. Sound Blaster Notes:
  24. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  25. This program contains routines to play digital sound on a Sound
  26. Blaster or compatible card.  However, this program does NOT
  27. contain autodetection routines.  This program relies upon the
  28. BLASTER= variable being set appropriately in your environment.
  29. If the BLASTER= variable is set incorrectly, the program may
  30. crash.  If the BLASTER= variable is absent the program will
  31. not attempt to use Sound Blaster sound.
  32.  
  33. Additionally you will need to have free EMS memory to hear
  34. all digital sounds (they're too big to fit in conventional
  35. memory).  The sounds deemed "most important" to game play
  36. will be loaded into conventional memory on a first-come,
  37. first-served basis.  To hear ALL sounds you will need
  38. enough EMS free to fit the file KBSFX.DBO.  Check free EMS
  39. with the MEM command under DOS.

  63. When you choose a new mouse sensitivity, it is stored in the
  64. game startup information file (KERBOOM.INI).

  67. Game Notes:
  68. ~~~~~~~~~~~
  69. Kerboom! features a criminal who moves randomly across the
  70. top area of the screen, raining bombs down upon you.  All
  71. you have is your buckets of water to catch the bombs.
  72.  
  73. At the beginning of the game you have three (3) buckets of
  74. water to render-safe the falling bombs.  Every time you
  75. miss catching a bomb you lose one of your precious buckets.
  76. When all of your buckets are gone, the game is over.
  77.  
  78. For every 10,000 points of game play you will be awarded a
  79. spare bucket, which will replace any bucket you have lost,
  80. or any bucket you might lose in the future.  If you are
  81. playing in extended mode (see below), then the bonuses are
  82. spaced every 5,000 points.

  87. The two versions keep completely separate high score charts.

  89. The following features distinguish play in extended mode:
  90.  
  91.     - bombs can fall diagonally in later waves
  92.     - buckets are "consumed" from the bottom up
  93.     - bonus buckets are only 5,000 points each
  94.     - the criminal issues random "taunts" to the player
  95.  
  96. Both play modes are provided in the hopes that you will
  97. enjoy the game enough to send in your registration fee.  :)

  100. Scoring:

  102. Every bomb you catch is worth 1 point multiplied by the
  103. wave number.  Each wave has more and more bombs.
