- MAIN SELECTION SCREEN
- ═════════════════════
-
- 1. THE ENROL DATA BANK
- <Very simple, you just type in your name and choose a rank with the
- function keys.>
-
- 2. CHOOSE YOUR SCENARIO
- On this screen you are given the choice of four different locations.
- Three of these locations will involve you in the wars that are taking
- place in those areas. The four scenarios are:
- a) Arizona: You are assigned to the USAF test range in Arizona (you
- cannot be damaged)
- b) The Middle East
- c) The Pacific Ocean
- d) Europe - The ultimate battle front.
- TO SELECT YOUR SCENARIO, PRESS 1,2,3 OR 4.
-
- 3. SELECT PLANE
- Press key one or two for F22 or F29 respectively
-
- 4. SELECT ARMAMENT
- Press the key to add arms, and CTRL-key to remove arms.
- See WEAPONS AND STORES.
-
- 5. VIEW SIERRA HOTEL PILOTS
- This screen shows the top ten pilot scores.
-
- 6. ZULU ALERT
- Zulu alert provides quick entry into the game. You are given
- unlimited weapons and bein a "shoot-'em-up" game in your selected
- scenario, starting in mid-air-flight against a squadron of enemy
- fighters. No points are awarded and no log information is saved to disk
- as this is merely a practice exercise.
-
- 7. MISSION CONTROL
- Selecting this option puts you into the mission control section of the
- game. When entering mission control you are provided with teh latest
- update of the war situation in your chosen scenario (except Arizona)
- with a detailed map showing the battle front and text describing the
- latest events in the war. War updates are provided after every four or
- so missions, dependent on your scenario. Press RETURN to access the
- Mission Control options screen.
-
- 8. HEAD TO HEAD
- <I'm too lazy to type out the four pages of mickey-mouse instructions
- for the general ignorant. I assume that by having this release you can
- use a modem. The commands are very simple and it doesn't screw up
- (wow, eh?). Anyway, when you are both going, you are stuck on the
- Arizona test range head to head. A msision is chosen and flashed
- across the top of your screen, eg. 5G BRIDGE, would mean destroy the
- bridge in sector 5G. Both opponents are racing to finish this mission,
- but they can also attack each other should they wish. When someone
- loses all of their four lives or one player lands after the missions
- are finished, the game ends and you are in a pseudo-terminal mode.
- Hitting F10 gets you back to the options screen and you can then hit F1
- and begin again....>
-
- MISSION CONTROL SELECTION MENU

- Simply press the number next to the base you wish to use.
- <Great way to get a good map of the battle zone! The grid is from
- 8 to 1 going down the left side, and from A to H across the bottom.
- If you dump this screen to the printer and fill in the quadrants you
- have a flight map (although you have one on the plane too, it is only
- for the immediate area, and helpful). >
-
- 4. VIEW PILOTS LOG
- The game disk is designed to store all of the statistics of one pilot,
- e.g. his/her number of missions completed; name; rank; score and awards.
-
- 5. EXIT MISSION CONTROL

- THE NEXT GENERATION COCKPIT SYSTEM (ECOP)
- ═════════════════════════════════════════
-
- <take a look at the cockpit to find all these instruments.
- Note - a green light is a selected item.
- a yellow light is a damaged item
- a red light is a destroyed item (unfixable)>
-
- INSTRUMENT DESCRIPTION:
-
- AUTO - Autopilot on or off. When the light is green it guides you back
- to the combat area by constantly updating a target heading depending on
- your position.
-
- BRKS Whilst on teh ground the brake key turns the landing gear brakes
- on and off - in the air it turns the air brakes on and off. Then the
- airbrake is extended or the gear brake is on the light is green.
-
- FLAP - The flap key moves the wing flaps in and out. When the flaps are
- out, the aircraft slows down, gains lift, and reduces stall speed. High
- speeds can damage the flaps.
-
- GEAR - A green landing gear light will appear when the landing gear is
- extended and in its landing position. When the gear is retracted the
- light is extinguished. If you exceed 240 mph with extended landing gear
- you will seriously damage it. At 240 mph a yellow caution light will
- appear. If this occurs, you should either raise your gear or slow down
- to prevent further damage. A red light indicates serious fatal damage
- to your gear.
-
- SYSTEMS ANALYSIS
-
- O ARM - Master Arm Light LIghts up when selected weapon is armed and
- ready for launch (see weapons).
-
- STALL - Sall light lights up when <you stall.>
-
- P |||||| - RPM Bar - each line represents 5% RPM.
-
- F |||| - Fuel Bar - represents fuel remaining.
-
- WARNING IDICATORS (YELLOW - CAUTION, RED- DANGER).
-
- FIRE - This light will flash when a fire occurs. It is not recoverable
- and the pilot must eject.
-
- FUE - Fuel low warning
-
- ENG - Shows if RPM falls below 50%.
-
- ALT - Yellow if altitutde is below 500 feet. Below 200 ft a red light
- will show.
-
- RD - if the radar is damaged or faulty this will light up.
-
- WEP - if a weapons system is damaged or jams this light will go on.
-
- COM - If communications faliures occur...
-
- ____ - Message bar <above middle screen> Various text is provided on
- this display, eg. the type of missile approaching, etc.
-
- ENEMY THREAT PANEL
-
- LCK - If a lock is fixed on your plane by enemy radar this warning light
- will show. You can attempt to break the lock with ECM system. Stealth
- procedures may help, too.
-
- LUH - Enemy missile launch, a flashing red light.
-
- Radar Warning indicator (little radar to the right and above the middle
- screen) - Radar warning receiver. Indicates a threat to a range of 24
- miles. Does not transmit and thus is active even in stealth mode.
-
- THREAT - When the on-board ECM equipment detects enemy targetting radar
- signals, this light is shown.
-
- STEL - Limited radar cloaking is available which makes the aircraft
- radar invisible if you fly slowly and low and reduce all radar emissions
- from your craft. An indicator shows how vulnerable you are to radar
- emission.
-
- ECM - Tells you when the ECM is used (it blinds enemy radar).
-
- O RUN - Appears after 20% thrust has been attained.
-
- THE MULTI-FUNCTION DISPLAY UNITS.
-
- <pressing 1,2,3 will toggle screens. Experiment. note the long range
- radar on screen 1, for finding targets a long way away.>
-
- THE HEADS UP DISPLAY (HUD)
-
-
- The top of the HUD shows the compass bearing.
- The left shows the speed, in knots.
- The right shows the altitute, in feet
-
- The bottom right shows indicators such as GEAR, BRAKE, FLAPS.
- The bottom left tells you the weapon armed and the number of that weapon
- type available for firing.
- When an enemy appears a box appears around it on the HUD, and when a
- missile lock has been obtained, a flashing diamond appears in the box.
- It is then time to fire.
-
- SIMPLE CONTROL OF YOUR PLANE
- ════════════════════════════
-
- TAKE OFF:
- 1. Power up and build thrust to 50%
- 2. Release the brakes and steer slowly along the runway
- 3. Increase the thrust to 80-90% and attain a takeoff speed of about
- 200 mph.
- 4. Pull gently back on the stick and raise the landing gear once you
- are off the ground.
- <Alternately, hit 'B' to disable the brakes (VERY important!!!), then
- hit 'Z' for full throttle, pull up after 200 knots and hit 'G' and
- you're away.>
-
- LANDING:
- 1. Straighten the aircraft using the centre of the runway as a
- reference. Maintain a speed of around 300 mph and a height of 1500-2000
- feet. Life the nose slightly to maintain level flight.
- 2. On approach, descend down to around 300 feet and reduce airspeed to
- around 200 mph, lowering your flaps. It is advisable to lower your
- landing gear at this point. Remember to keep the centreline of the
- runway directly ahead of you.
- 3. When your wheels touch the runway, reduce the throttle to zeo and
- push foward on the stick to lower the nosewheel down to the ground.
- 4. Apply the brakes and when the craft has stopped completely, the
- mission you have undertaken is complete.
-
- <Not as easy as it sounds. use the airbrakes to slow down a lot and
- then you'll float down with flaps and gear on when you reach about 170
- knots, real easy. Takes a lot of practice to land the thing.>
-
- MEDALS
