- · ·· · ···──══─ ┤ Novels Based on DOOM - a Book Review ├ ─══──··· · ·· ·
-
- This is just a quick review of a couple novels now in bookstores that,
- well, if you're an avid DOOM fan, you gotta have them. They are just
- nice collectibles but are also actually fun to read. Brings life to
- an already life-like game. The following info is to help you find them
- and to give some basic info about them so you can decide whether you
- want to get them either to read or just add to your DOOM collection...
- or both.
-
- The two "DOOM" novels are in paperback and I found them in plentiful
- quantity at "B. Dalton BookSeller". I am sure that "Barnes and Noble"
- and other well-known bookstores/booksellers will have them too.
-
- The books have the now very familiar cover artwork we find on the two
- versions of the game software packages. (Not to mention the "DOOM"
- logo we all have doodled on a piece of scratch paper now and then).
- These books also have titles (besides the name "DOOM") that we have
- had dreams about (or more likely NIGHTMARES) which are "KNEE DEEP IN
- THE DEAD" and "HELL ON EARTH". The books are Pocket Star Books
- published by POCKET BOOKS which is a division of Simon and Schuster,
- Inc. Both books are obviously based on the software games by id
- Software. The printing date on the books are both August 1995 so not
- only are these books just fresh from the press... they are a tad
- early too! The cover price is $4.99 each US. The books are written
- by Dafydd ab Hugh and Brad Linaweaver.
-
- Look for these books on the SCIENCE FICTION shelves!

- · ·· · ···──══─ ┤ DOOM - KNEE DEEP IN THE DEAD Review ├ ─══──··· · ·· ·
-
- The cover states "Beyond the Game... The First Chapter in a Classic
- New Space Opera". The sort of "preface" starts out with a very
- interesting intro that is quite good and grabs your attention.
-
- The first chapter starts out a little slow with the usual novel
- introduction to set the mood and the atmosphere. Not that it isn't
- well written, because it is... but quite possibly it seemed slow
- since I am so used to anything to do with DOOM is guaranteed excitement
- from the word "go". But the book didn't stay that way long. I read
- a post somewhere on the internet about this book and someone compared
- KNEE DEEP IN THE DEAD to HELL ON EARTH that it was a novel a teenage
- science fiction nut would love where HELL ON EARTH is a little less
- adolescent. I agree except that I don't agree you have to be a
- teenager to enjoy this book.
-
- · ·· · ···──══─ ┤ DOOM - HELL ON EARTH - Review ├ ─══──··· · ·· ·
-
- The cover states "Beyond the Game... Chapter Two in a Classic New
- Space Opera".
-
- Again, the intro is to set the mood and atmosphere, but this time
- (since KNEE DEAD gets us started) it jumps right in and continues
- the battlescenes we are so familiar with.
-
- The next time you play the game... may not be the same after
- reading HELL ON EARTH.
-
-
- · ·· · ···──══─ ┤ - CONCLUSION - ├ ─══──··· · ·· ·
-
- Well... not much to go on but I don't want to give anything away to
- everyone that would like to read it for themselves.
-
- Pick the books up and enjoy them!
