  42.    part7/part8. I want to express, that that list, as any other information
  43.    in this postings/document, can't contain all products available, as I
  44.    can't possibly read all publications/advertisements all over the world

  52. 1.1 Introduction

  54.    I took the Information in Ed Vielmetti's FAQ files, my personal
  55.    experience, and lots of stuff from comp.protocols.ppp, and built a new
  56.    document. Later, lots of people contributed at one or the other place.

  58.    This document will be reposted fortnightly, as soon as it is fairly
  59.    stable, and weekly till then. Changed sections should be marked in the
  60.    Table of Contents with a ! or + for something got added or - for
  61.    something got deleted.

  63. 1.2 Information Wanted

  65.    If you have experience with anything mentioned here, or know of newer
  66.    versions, or of versions of software for other hardware/OS, or ... send
  67.    me mail. I'll include it and possibly mention your name, if you don't
  68.    express otherwise.

  70.    The last paragraph applies explicitly to the authors themselves! Keep me
  71.    informed, please. If you send me complete entries, consider to get the

  75. CD-ROM policy

  77.    This sample of documents was collected by me from the various sources,
  78.    including the Usenet news and direct contributions from others. I
  79.    started with it before the outbreak of the CD ROM plague, so the special
  80.    issue of ppl. collecting machine readable data, storing them to master
  81.    disks and selling copies thereof never occured.
  82.    
  83.    Personally, I think that pressing higly dynamic data collections (like
  84.    FAQ lists) to write-once media is a very stupid thing to do. However,
  85.    there might be reasons to include the PPP-FAQ with other data; e.g.,
  86.    when preparing a NetBSD distribution on CD-ROM, an off-line readable
  87.    copy of the PPP FAQ might be helpful for those wanting to set up a PPP
  88.    connection from their newly aquired NetBSD for the first time... how
  89.    could they access the online copy without having a working PPP
  90.    connection?

  92.    In the last few years I got lots of requests to allow the PPP FAQ to be
  93.    added to such CD-ROMs. As I never had asked for such permissions from
  94.    the contributors, I was not able to say "yes", even if I would have
  95.    given the permission for my own work.
  96.    
  97.    If you contribute s.th., please state clearly if you would allow
  98.    inclusion of the information to CD-ROM collections.
  99.    
  100.    At the moment, I can't give the permission to copy this stuff to CD-ROMs
  101.    which are sold afterwards, even if I would like to, for the stated
  102.    reasons.

  119.       all commercial products in existance are contained here, or that
  120.       products contained here are suited for anything useful better or
  121.       worse than others. If any vendors feel their product should be
  122.       included, and tells me about it, I probably would do it; but I don't
  123.       promise that I'll include it the same day or week or at all.

  134. Solaris 2.1:  it's slow, needs 200M of disk space and comes without C compiler,
  135. which makes it remarkably close to MS-Windows. oleg@gd.cs.csufresno.edu
