Valium and other tranquilizers are used to lessen or do away with the feelings of anxiety and discomfort. But if taken in high quantities, they produce long-term sedation and grogginess and may even cause comas. By taking these drugs you stand the risk of damaging or impairing your nerve centers.
The effects of tranquilizers stem not so much from the presence of the drug in your body as from the absence of the drug once your body has become addicted to it. With long-term use of this, or any drug, the body develops a dependence on it, and when the drug is withdrawn, the body reacts with withdrawal symptoms. Some reactions include nervousness, tremors, anxiety, insomnia, convulsions, body aches, and strange tastes and smells. Some cases may even resemble having a bad case of the flu.
