  1.   The Iguanodon was one of the first
  2. dinosaurs discovered -- the first
  3. fossils were found in England in
  4. 1822. Iguanodon fossils are common
  5. in Europe. The name means "Iguana
  6. Tooth" -- the jaws are lined with
  7. broad, flat teeth that are similar
  8. to those of an unrelated, presently
  9. living iguana lizard.
  10.   The hind feet of the Iguanodon had
  11. four toes, one of which appears to
  12. have been vestigial. Tracks indicate
  13. that the Iguanodon was a herd
  14. animal.
  15.   The Iguanodon had five-fingered
  16. hands with a spiked thumb.
  17. Originally the thumb was thought to
  18. be a horn and was placed on the
  19. head.
  20.   The Iguanodon lived about 100
  21. million years ago, grew to a length
  22. of thirty feet, stood fifteen feet
  23. tall, and weighed in excess of
  24. 13,000 pounds.^
