- ================================================
- Installation
- ================================================
-
- Ad Hoc is a Windows program. It requires Microsoft Windows version 3.1.
- If you are installing Ad Hoc over a previous version, read the section
- "Installing over a previous version".
-
- The Ad Hoc installation file set is distributed in a zip file, ADHOC.ZIP
- (this README file is a part of that set). When you unzip the file, the
- contents are installation files in compressed form. The installation program
- is Microsoft Setup, which expects these files to be either on a 1.44MB (3.5
- inch) diskette, or in a hard drive directory called DISK1 when you run Setup.
- If you unzipped with the -d option, a subdirectory called DISK1 was created,
- and the files placed in it.
-
- YOU MUST USE THE SETUP PROGRAM TO INSTALL ADHOC.
-
- Step 1. Unzip the ADHOC.ZIP file to an installation diskette
- -------------------------------------------------------------
- To install Ad Hoc, unzip the distribution file ADHOC.ZIP to a 3.5 inch
- (1.44MB) diskette. Leave ADHOC.ZIP on your hard drive, as there will not be
- enough room for both the zip file and the unzipped files on the diskette.
-
- If you don't have a 1.44MB diskette drive, you can also create a new directory
- on your hard drive with the name DISK1 and unzip into that directory.
- Unzipping with the -d option does this automatically, For example, if you have
- a copy of ADHOC.ZIP in a directory called C:\DOWNLOAD, you can follow these
- steps at the C:\ prompt:
-
- pkunzip C:\DOWNLOAD\ADHOC.ZIP C:\ -d
-
- If you didn't use the -d option to unzip, you can create the C:\DISK1 directory
- and copy the unzipped files into it.
-
- Step 2. Run the Setup program
- ------------------------------
- From the Program Manager File|Run command, or the File Manager
- File|Run command, run the setup program. For example
- if you are installing from a diskette in the B: drive, enter the command
-
- B:SETUP
-
- If you are installing from the DISK1 directory on your C: hard drive,
- enter the command:
-
- C:\DISK1\SETUP
-
- The setup program will ask you for the directory on your hard disk that Ad
- Hoc will be installed into. The default program directory name suggested is
- C:\ADHOC, but you can change it if necessary. The setup program will install
- Ad Hoc and all of its support files into this directory. This will allow you
- to easily remove Ad Hoc from your disk should you decide not to register the
- product. Just delete all files in the ADHOC directory.
-
- Step 3. Load DOS SHARE.EXE before running ADHOC
- ------------------------------------------------
- Before running Ad Hoc, you must install the DOS SHARE driver. This must be
- done before you run Windows (do not do it from a DOS window running under
- Windows). To load share, at the DOS prompt, enter SHARE. SHARE.EXE is located in your DOS directory.
- Then start Windows. For convenience, put the SHARE command in your
- AUTOEXEC.BAT file. (If you start windows in your AUTOEXEC, make sure the
- SHARE command is first.)
-
- Optional
- -------------------
- Ad Hoc uses several DLLs that may already be installed on your disk for other
- programs. To save disk space, you can move these DLLs to your WINDOWS\SYSTEM
- directory for use by all programs. Any DLLs that you copy to the
- WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory can be deleted from the ADHOC directory. These DLLs
- are:
-
- BC30RTL.DLL Supports the Borland Objectwindows library used in Ad Hoc
- OWL31.DLL also
- TCLASS31.DLL also
- BWCC.DLL Borland Windows Custom Control library
- WBTRCALL.DLL Btrieve record manager from Novell, used in Ad Hoc
-
- DB.DLL is an Ad Hoc private library; there is no need to move it
- AHUTIL.DLL is an AD Hoc library
-
- IMPORTANT: If you have several copies of a particular DLL on your disk, make
- sure that you put the latest copy (by file date)in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM
- directory before you delete the other copies.
-
- ================================================
- Installing over a previous version
- ================================================
- You should install Ad Hoc in the same directory as your previous version. If you
- want to keep the sample database files in the SAMPLE subdirectory, don't check the
- "Install Sample Database" option during setup. The new version of Ad Hoc is
- compatible with your existing databases. The new report format allows right and bottom
- margins for report elements, and your existing reports may have invalid values for
- these margins. To check, you should run the Diagnostics procedure on all your reports
- (see Diagnostics in the Help system). We suggest that you run diagnostics on your
- database(s) and all forms and lists as well.
-
- There are more configuration options in this version, and the options have been rearranged.
- You should check each option dialog to make sure the settings are correct.
-
- See the Help topic "What's New in Ad Hoc version 1.00.27" for a summary of the new
- features.
-
- ================================================
- Installed Files
- ================================================
-
- After you install Ad Hoc, the program directory should contain the
- following files:
-
- ADHOC.EXE the program file
- ADHOC.HLP the help file
- ADHOC.INI the Ad Hoc initialization file
- LABELS.DAT a data file of standard mailing label formats
- DB.DLL
- AHUTIL.DLL
- BC30RTL.DLL
- OWL31.DLL
- TCLASS31.DLL
- BWCC.DLL
- WBTRCALL.DLL
- README.1ST this file
- ORDER.TXT order form for Ad Hoc
-
- If you elected to install the sample database, your installation directory
- will contain a subdirectory SAMPLE. The files in this directory should
- include:
-
- SAMPLE.DDF the data dictionary file
- SAMPLEF.DD database forms table
- SAMPLER.DD database reports table
- SAMPLED.DD supplemental data dictionary data
