- CORRIDOR 7 ADDENDUM
- ===================
-
-
- The following information is provided as an addendum to the
- Corridor 7 Alien Invasion Manual. A few things may have
- changed or may have been added since the manual was sent to
- the printers.
-
- -- Changes ------------------------------------------------
-
- 1. Proximity mines now appear as RED blinking blips on your
- map instead of BLUE as stated in the manual. This was
- done during final beta testing because we found it too
- difficult to distinguish between dropped mines and the
- players position.
-
- 2. Securing the floor for the different difficulty levels
- requires kills of certain percentages as follows:
-
- DIFFICULTY KILLS REQUIRED
- ========== ==============
- Corporal 10%
- 2nd Lieutenant 75%
- Captain 100%
- Major 100%
-
- On Corporal and 2nd Lieutenant levels a message will
- appear (and be heard on SoundBlasters & compatibles)
- when the appropriate percentage of aliens have been
- killed stating "Elevator Clearance Acquired". This means
- that at any time you may go to the elevator and proceed
- to the next floor.
-
- -- Additions ----------------------------------------------
-
- Alternate elevators can be found on some floors (usually
- guarded by boss aliens). These elevators will take you to
- "bonus levels". You do not have to secure the floor on a
- bonus level to complete the game. Bonus levels are for
- points only. You enter the bonus level with whatever items
- you are currently carrying and leave the bonus level with
- the same items (including health and ammo). You cannot die
- on bonus levels - instead, you are awarded points for kills
- and shooting accuracy, then taken to the next floor. You
- play the bonus level until your health has expired or until
- you return to the elevator.
-
- ** NOTICE **
- It may be a good idea to save your game when you are taken
- to a bonus level. This way, you can replay the bonus level
- as often as you wish until you kill all aliens and gain as
- many points as possible.

- -- TROUBLE SHOOTING ---------------------------------------
-
- If you are experiencing difficulties with digitized sound
- effects such as sporadic playback, distortion or choppiness
- there are a few things you can try that may alleviate the
- problem before you call for technical support. The problems
- mentioned above are most often the result of an interrupt
- conflict. The playback of digitized sounds in applications
- using DMA (Direct Memory Access), such as the case with
- SoundBlaster and compatibles, relies heavily on your chosen
- interrupt to keep the actual sound data moving from memory
- to the DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) of the sound card.
- The most commonly used interrupts for sound cards are 5 and
- 7. Corridor 7 supports interrupts 2, 3, 5 and 7. A printer
- will also often use one of these interrupts. A sound card
- and printer that share common interrupts will in many cases
- cause digitized playback problems. Other specialized add-in
- cards such as network or scanner cards, may also be using a
- system interrupt. In such a case using a DOS boot disk or
- temporarily commenting out the loading of specialized
- drivers from your "autoexec.bat" and "config.sys" files can
- alleviate the problem. The sound cards' interrupt should
- be reserved SOLELY FOR ITS USE. If possible use interrupt 7
- (the original SoundBlaster default) for your sound card. If
- using a Pro-Audio Spectrum card in SoundBlaster emulation
- mode, once again set the SoundBlaster interrupt to 7 if
- possible (there should be a hardware jumper on the card for
- the SoundBlaster interrupt), and make sure that the actual
- PAS interrupt and the SB interrupt are not the same (this
- can again result in a conflict). It is possible that you
- may not have access to the faders in the game that control
- music and digitized volume. This is because these functions
- were designed around the mixer chip used in SoundBlaster 16
- and SoundBlaster Pro cards. If you do not have one of these
- sound cards you will not be able to use the audio-mixer
- section. This problem may be resolved soon as we await more
- comprehensive standards in regards to sound card functions
- and compatability.

- INSTALLING FOR NETWORK PLAY:
- ============================
- To install Corridor 7 to be played on an IPX compatible network
- choose the "network" type from the INSTALL program. It is best
- to install a copy on each of the workstations that will be part
- of the slaughter. The reason being that if you install the files
- directly onto a network drive and if others are moving around in
- the game it will take longer for a new player to join in because
- of all the IPX activity happening.
-
-
-
- COMMAND LINE OPTIONS
- ====================
- There are utility command line options available for your
- convenience. They are as follows and should be added to the
- DOS command line when you type CORR7.
-
- "local"
- - this option tells Corridor 7 to look for
- graphics and sound files on your local drive
- and not on the CD drive.
-
- "network"
- - this option will allow you to execute the
- Corridor 7 game without the CD. NOTE: You can
- only play network games without the CD. Other
- levels of play will ask you to insert the CD in
- the player before proceeding.
-
- "keepfiles"
- - this option will prevent the temporary files
- from being deleted when you exit the game.
-
-
-
- MULTIPLAYABILITY
- ================
- For IPX (network) multiplaybility install using the "network" type
- from within the INSTALL program.
-
- For MODEM multiplayability, enter the game as usual except pick
- "MODEM" instead of "CORPORAL" or "CAPTAIN". After configuring
- your hardware setup (ie. COM port, IRQ, etc.) you will be thrown
- into the game. At this point your modem is set to auto-answer
- and will await a call from your opponents modem. The following
- commands are available from within the game during modem play:
-
- ALT-A - Answer the line manually. Use this if someone
- dials you up and your modem doesn't answer auto-
- matically.
-
- ALT-B - Busy-out the phone line. Use this if you don't
- want to accept any calls yet. ALT-H will hang-up
- the modem.
-
- ALT-D - Dial a number. Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys
- to highlight the appropriate option. To enter
- a number, highlight the phone number box and
- press ENTER. Type in the number and press ENTER
- again.
-
- ALT-H - Hangup the modem.
-
- ALT-I - Re-initialize the modem with the current init
- string.
-
- ALT-R - Reset the modem (this sends an ATZ to the modem).
-
-
- For direct SERIAL play, use a standard null-modem cable between
- the computers and select the appropriate baud rates (they should
- be the same on both machines).
-
- ==================================================================
-
- To configure the game to use CD music:
-
- a) Use the FULL INSTALL option.
-
- b) Select CD Music from the music options menu in
- the SETUP program.
-
- c) CD Controls will then be available from the "Adjust Audio"
- menu off the games Main Menu screen. They operate like
- standard "PLAY" "SKIP" and "STOP" buttons on a CD player.
- Look for more interaction between the game and CD score
- in our next release "Operation Body Count".
-
- d) The CD controls can also be accessed by "Hot Keys" from
- inside the game (these come in handy if your sound cards
- mixing functions aren't supported - you do not have acces
- to the "Adjust Audio" menu). They are as follows:
-
- ALT-P : Play.
- ALT-F : Skip (advances to the next track).
- ALT-S : Stop.
-
- CD and Line-In mixer options are included in case you do not have an
- internal audio connection from your CDROM drive to your sound card.
- In this situation a stereo mini-plug cable (or an RCA to mini,
- depending on your CD drive) can be used to run from an external
- CDROM drive to the Line-In input of the sound card. Use the
- appropriate fader on the Adjust Audio screen to set pleasant listening
- levels.
-
-
- ABNORMALITIES
- =============
- If the game seems to be operating abnormally or doesn't load up at
- all, try adding "noems" and "noxms" to the command line when loading
- up the game.
-
- For example: C:\CORR7CD> CORR7 NOEMS NOXMS
