  17. 1.  RUNNING THE SOFTWARE
  18. ------------------------
  19.      Wordsearch Mania! was written using VISUAL BASIC v3.0.  To run Wordsearch 
  20. Mania! v1.0, you will need the following files at a minimum:
  21.                     
  22.                WS.EXE - The Wordsearch Mania! executable
  23.                WS.CFG - Configuration file
  24.                WS.HLP - Windows help file for Wordsearch Mania!
  25.                THREED.VBX - Programming file
  26.                VBRUN300.DLL - Run-time library for all VISUAL BASIC
  27.                               programs (not part of the original archive,
  28.                               need to download separately.  Can be found
  29.                               on many BBS's in your area)
  30.                PUZZLES.ZIP - An archive containing some sample puzzles for
  31.                              you to solve
  32.  
  33. The following files are also included in the original archive, but are not
  34. necessary for program operation:
  35.  
  36.                WS.ICO - Icon file for Windows 
  37.                README.1ST - This File
  38.                ORDER.FRM - Fill out this form to register Wordsearch Mania!
  39.                HISTORY.TXT - Shows the programming evolution of this program
  40.                FILE_ID.DIZ - Description file, used by many BBS'es

  42. Do the following to install Wordsearch Mania!:
  43.  
  44.            1)  Create a directory on your hard disk to put the program 
  45.                in.  This can be done with the 'MD' command from DOS.  
  46.                For example, to create a directory called 'WRDSRCH' on 
  47.                your 'C' drive, move to the root directory ("C:\>") and type
  48.                'MD WRDSRCH'.  It is not recommended to run this program
  49.                from a floppy drive, it will run too slow.
  50.            
  51.            2)  Copy the files WS.EXE, WS.CFG, and WS.HLP into this 
  52.                directory.  You can put the files not necessary for program 
  53.                operation here as well.
  54.  
  55.            3)  You can copy the puzzles from the archive PUZZLES.ZIP into the
  56.                directory just created, or you can create another directory
  57.                to put them in.  If you choose the latter, you will need to
  58.                tell the program where the puzzle files are located (See
  59.                'Set Paths' from the 'Options' menu).
  60.            
  61.            4)  Copy the files THREED.VBX and VBRUN300.DLL to your
  62.                \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
  63.  
  64.            5)  Run WINDOWS, and select 'RUN' from the Program Manager
  65.                'File' menu.  Type WS.EXE as the file to run.  Don't 
  66.                forget to include directory information if necessary.  
  67.                You can also create a 'program item' by selecting 'New'
  68.                from the 'File' menu.  An icon (WS.ICO) has been included
  69.                for this purpose.

  74. 2.  SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  75. -----------------------
  76.      To run Wordsearch Mania!, you will need Windows 3.1 or better (3.0 is 
  77. not supported), approx 300K RAM free (plus 40K approx for each puzzle loaded), 
  78. and a mouse.

  81. 3.  PROGRAM REGISTRATION
  82. ------------------------
  83.      THIS PROGRAM IS NOT FREE!  You are invited to try Wordsearch Mania! v1.0
  84. for an evaluation period not to exceed 15 days.  If you continue to use the
  85. program after the time is up, YOU MUST REGISTER.
  86.      To REGISTER, please send the completed order form (ORDER.FRM) along with 
  87. a check or money order (NO CASH PLEASE!) for $19.99 + $4.00 S/H to the 
  88. following address:

  94.      Make out all checks to 'Michael J. Baker'.  Foreign orders will be 
  95. accepted, as long as the registration check is drawn on a U.S. bank.  
  96. Registration entitles you to the following four things:
  97.  
  98.      1)  A free upgrade to the next version.  It will automatically be sent
  99.          to you the second it is finished!
  100.  
  101.      2)  All registration screens will be disabled in the program!
  102.  
  103.      3)  Build your own puzzles to solve!  You will have three ways to build 
  104.          a puzzle!  Build a puzzle completely from scratch, build a puzzle 
  105.          specifying just the word list, or let the computer build a puzzle, 
  106.          with no work from you!

  108.      4)  Even More Puzzles!  An archive full of puzzles (the number varies 
  109.          from day to day, but there will be a lot!) will be sent with your
  110.          registration disk.  When the next version of the program is sent to
  111.          you, a brand new archive of puzzles will be sent along with it!
