- INSTALLING ECON'S ARENA (SHAREWARE EDITION)
-
- Econ's Arena is designed to run in Windows 3.1 and may not work properly in
- Windows 3.0.
-
- To run Econ's Arena, select File Run from the Program Manager. Then type:
-
- x:ECON
-
- where x is the letter of the drive and path indicating where Econ's Arena is
- stored.
-
- Online instructions will explain how the game is played. Select Help Contents
- for more information.
-
- KNOWN BUGS
-
- We have spent a lot of time trying to remove all of the bugs from Econ's Arena
- but we know of at least one bug that has escaped our detection. After many
- moves, the game mysteriously runs out of memory, despite the amount of RAM of
- the size of your swap file. Despite our best debugging techniques, we have
- been unable to completely eliminate the error.
-
- However, there is a surefire method around this problem. Save your game
- periodically. Then, if the error should occur, you can restart Econ's Arena
- and reload the saved game. (The mysterious error does not damage saved game
- information, so you can continue from where you left off.)
-
- WHEN MIDI FILES WON'T PLAY
-
- Windows is peculiar about playing MIDI files. If you receive a message that
- says it cannot play the MIDI files (and you have a sound card which can play
- MIDI files), then you need to alter your Windows configuration slightly. (I am
- VERY reluctant to have the program change the settings for you.)
-
- From the Control Panel, select the MIDI Mapper. Edit or make a new setup.
- Then change the Port Name to Adlib. (We have found this to work with Sound
- Blaster cards and Pro Audio Spectrum cards.)
-
- If you find a combination that works with your particular setup, please let us
- know so we can inform other users of your discoveries. (I don't have a degree
- in Windows sound, so I really appreciate any help you can give.)
-
- If you can't get it to work, run Econ's Arena. Select Game Options. Check the
- box marked "Do not play MIDI sounds" (this is the default). This will prevent
- Windows from issuing the error message every time the sound would play.
- (Obviously, this is also the best configuration for computers without sound
- cards.)
